fyp - everybody knows Obama is amazing, and it's all Bush's fault.

Neither Romney or Obama can save you from this shit, it's every man for himself.

Pretty much this.
I'm going to go purchase a couple more guns next week. Why? Because after I saw your thread title I thought, "****... I need more guns ASAP."

More guns always make me feel better

I'm far more concerned about the biological effects of non ionizing electromagnetic radiation. Than procuring a meal or two

Don't know that you could get that far, people would probably be shooting at you from the woods.

You must be assuming I'm waiting for all the big city folk to head this way before I bug out.

Central Montana is void of people to begin with. Plus, Montana is the 4th largest state with the third smallest population.

Also, the people around here are used to being without power for extended periods of time. Most are plenty self-sufficient for a few weeks. They aren't going to worry about my sorry ass.

We just drove a 45 mile stretch of Hwy 191 and only saw one car.

I need to start buying a box of ammo a week.

That device will be set off very high in the air... You think it will affect the surface?

I read 'One Second After' so I know that I would be F**ked so I would.

A. Slowly starve to death or die of thurst.

B. One of you A-holes would shot my ass and take all my stuff.

C. Down a bunch of prescription medicine and kill myself.

This does give a significant advantage...

From what I've read... If an EMP was going to be detonated, it would be done above the atmosphere in order to have a wider area of affect. Two or three would take out the eastern seaboard if placed correctly.

However, I see your point if it was detonated on the ground or a few thousand feet up. I don't think we'd worry too much since we'd probably be toast.

Another concern would be the EMP effecting the earths magnetic fields. It's been speculated that the axis and rotation might actually be affected.
That would cause some super cereal issues.

That speculation is pretty much false since the sun has released massive emp fields that would 100% present the situation the OP states. Depending on how massive the emp was would change how long the power would be out. Was the blast big enough to destroy the transformers or just shut them down?
