Exactly my feeling. It would be insulting to his character's nature.

And I literally giggled when Walter said Massive Dynamic... that's gonna be a fun angle...

I hope they don't drag this story out to long. It's interesting, but only for a bit longer. At some point quickly, I want it to pay off.

Really cool episode last night. I love the idea of sleeper shapeshifters. Plus more insight into Peter noticing the BOlivia differences, and the struggle she's having. The thing I love the most about that is that I think it all but guarantees that Peter and Olivia won't be an item once she returns from the other universe; shows tend to work better when the leads don't couple up. Them finding each other again needs to be a payoff that happens years from now.

And Walter in charge of Massive Dynamic is looking like it's going to be all I hoped it would be. LMAO

aturnis 10-15-2010 10:57 PM

Finally somebody wants to talk some Fringe. Been waiting for someone to bring it up. Last nights episode was good stuff. They really did load up on the drama with the possibility of anyone in our universe could be a shapeshifter. Even, potentially the Pres. Loved how Peter kind of said, "I'm on to you and will be watching".

The Massive Dynamic thing is going to be great, especially with Walter's unorthodox ways.

Also, surprised they let the main shapeshifter guy die. He was very good at his role. Really wondering when/if the observer's are going to intervene.

He was just a shape-shifter who had killed a man and taken his identity. This man is dead, and gone, how would another shape-shifter mimic him again?

Yes it was. Glad to see Olivia is starting to piece it together.

Was anyone else disappointed when the Doctor told her she needed to take her shirt off and she never did?

I'm wondering what will happen if there is a new season after this? I don't really seeing it getting any bigger than it already is, I'm sure this season will end with some kind of epic War of Dimensions.

keg in kc 11-05-2010 05:30 PM

That was a fantastic episode, beginning to end. But that exchange in the last few minutes, in the car, was just amazing. Well written, well executed:

"Why do you refuse to believe who you are? Why do you want to deny the truth about yourself?"
"You know, you can't prove anything that you're saying."
"I know things."
"You're in my head."
"Exactly! Which means you know things, too. Things about the other side. Things you couldn't possibly know unless you'd been there. Unless you were from there."

BigRedChief 11-05-2010 08:53 PM

Agree with the other comments. Outstanding episode.

Nah, I don't think they will have any problem at all taking this thing several seasons. Hell, who says there can only be two dimensions.

Silock 11-06-2010 01:33 AM

I don't think they'll wrap up this storyline this season.

My guess is that next season, we'll see pretty much all-out war between the two Walters. At least, that's what I hope happens.

Walternate with all the power that he has in his dimension, then Walter with all the power of Massive Dynamic. That would just be awesome.

Buck 11-06-2010 01:48 AM

If they were to introduce yet another universe where they had all the same people again, that would be the death of the show. I know I'd certainly stop watching it.

I have no idea what the producers are thinking but introducing another universe wouldn't be relevant to what we've been shown so far.

The ONLY reason they're aware of another universe on both sides is due to Walter traveling between the two universes and stealing Peter. The Alternate universe is just as afraid of the regular universe and vice versa.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Observer come into play this year as well.

Yeah....there is no way they have "the battle" this season. Kills the show. Expect it at minimum next season if it ever happens.

X-Files was amazing on Friday nights. It began to slump (and eventually go down the toilet) when it was moved to Sundays.

I think it'll do fine. It's the American Idol thing, not Fringe's numbers.

Great ep. They are only taking a break from the secondary universe to get back to what the show was always about. They are by no means done with the other universe though. I'm betting Broyles wants some sort of revenge and obviously Peter has conflicting feelings as well.

I know its only a break, but I was hoping all 22+ episodes would be one long story. It will be nice to take a mental break I guess.

Did you notice they cut off one of Broyles legs so that he would be the same mass as Faux-livia?

5 episodes of story arc
2 episodes of filler
5 episodes of story arc

Any news on the ratings?

Buck 01-23-2011 01:10 AM

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...ieres-up/79750

Fringe’s Friday premiere 1.9 adults 18-49 rating was a fraction above its Fall 18-49 average rating (1.88) and 12% above its latest new episode (1.7 adults 18-49, 12/9/10). That’s much better than most of our polled readers expected. If it can maintain that level, I’d expect it to be renewed. That wasn’t the only good ratings news for Fox as the season premiere of Kitchen Nightmares also scored a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating. That was up 36% from its last Friday original episode (5/21/10).

So it looks like Fringe did pretty good. I hope it does well and maybe Fox can justify keeping it around.

Just finished it. It seems that the machine isn't the weapon, Peter is. Peter doesn't activate the machine, the machine activates him!

keg in kc 01-31-2011 12:34 AM

I don't know if it was the mood I was in, but this week's felt a little off me. Peter's assassinations were telegraphed. (Actually a lot in the episode was I thought too obvious.) It seemed like they were trying too hard to darken him. It was a drastic change in character in a week's time, and it felt forced.

I would speculate that it's not the machine that "changed" him, but Walter's injection. It seemed strange to me that they didn't bring that up at all this week.

I agree, the "darkening" seemed forced. If he is going to blow up a whole world, he has to change. But, you don't have to do it in one episode.

I was getting mightily tired of the Olivia-Peter interplay until the last five minutes of the episode.

I'm mixed on the ending. Part of me likes it, part of me thinks the idea of which Olivia Peter picks determining which universe survives is the stupidest, silliest thing ever.

I'm mixed on it too, but it makes a certain sense.

Peter's "loyalty" to one or the other will be the crux.

I'm not terribly optimistic about a renewal for Season 4, but I'd love to see it.
