I've always thought this was just a fantastic under-rated song by a guy who was better known for a few of his others.

My station sponsored a Jason Michael Carroll show 2 years ago and I was fortunate enough to spend quite a bit of time with him. One of the nicest guys I've met and completely accomodating to his fans. In fact since he couldn't stay after the show (had to fly back to Nashville that night for a morning appearance on tv) he spend most of the concert signing autographs while singing... even went into the crowd a few times to sign for people not up front.
In most shows I've been a part of you need to have your station stuff to be autopraphed ready and easy to do for them before the show. JMC made sure we unbundled our t-shirts so he could sign right on our logo and he signed both the cd case and inner sleeve for our cd giveaways. That may not sound like a big thing but it's rare that the stars will take the time to do it right. Then he hung out with the station staff in the halls backstage and asked more questions about us than we did about him. JMC will always be a favorite of mine simply for the respect he shows to the people who are helping his career. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nLh5vbBLpxI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Love this one from JMC. "Livin Our Love Song."
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Ks6ukDrkRSU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
This was JMC's current single when he was in town. It's cool to see the way a crowd swells when an artist begins their current hit when they know it.
Fantastic song too. "Hurry Home." <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VWEI8Y91dQ0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
JMC's "rocker" that had just come off the charts at the time of the show. Cool to see him do it live and look just like the vid.

What? I don't care what you think of Garth's music but, his voice has so much range. I would wager that a very high percentage of professional singers envy his vocal talent. I mean, the man can sing songs most people can't. I just don't where you are coming from there. |

I won't lie. I hate Jo Dee a lot. I mean can't listen to it hate. An I think I'm the only one. I recognize she had a lot of hire hits there for awhile. Plus she seems pretty real I just can't stand her music. Quote:

I think the thing with Garth Brooks is that he was interested several types of music and he sang what he liked. It didn't always work but I found most of it enjoyable. I am fond of "Ireland", more folk music than country but it stuck in my head and I love the opening.

I'm just like the Dr. I just don't see the vocal talent. I see him more as an entertainer...he puts on a great show with alot things going on around him that makes the crowd forget he is just a better than average singer with a great ability to relate to the crowd and entertain. |
Garth did some stuff early in his career that was really great, but towards the end, his heart wasn't in his music. But I'll give him that he never let the fans down on any of his shows. He also lived up to his commitments (the Walmart tour). Love him or hate him, he was one straight on dude.

Uh no, no anger at all. Just puzzlement. I've heard a lot of negativity towards Garth over the years but, never anything about his voice. That is a first for me. And if you listen to his entire body of work you will find he has an amazing voice that ranges pretty damned well. |

Oh and when I say I don't like "party country" I don't mean to come off like I don't like anything upbeat or fun... that's not the case. Maybe I shoud say I don't like songs I think are stupid and completely shallow that appeal directly to the young girls in the front few rows holding their beers up and spilling half of it on themselves while they WHOOOOOP!!! it up and try not to fall down drunk dancing to the song. Songs like "Country Girl Shake It For Me" by Luke Bryan and the new "Truck Yeah" by Tim McGraw etc etc... there's a million of them. I just prefer music that actually speaks to me in some way and that doesn't mean it has to be particulary deep or depressing.... although I think we all know depression is where the best music often comes from. :) |
Cross Canadian Ragweed is pretty good imo..... nice.

I'm becoming milkman I think. I used to tolerate it and not worry about it too much, but as I get older, it pisses me off infinitely. People that are legitimately country shouldn't have to convince other people that being country is cool. The rage swells inside me and it is all I can do to curb the violence before people die. Oh, and "There's Somethin About a Truck" needs to die in a fire. |

I change the words to "Somethin About A Truck" with whatever comes to mind as long as it's hateful and profanity laced LOL. |
I despise contemporary country. Absolutely despise it. Therefore I have always ignored this thread because I thought that the thread would consist mostly of posts by users who are fans of contemporary country. After skimming through a few pages on here, it appears my first impression of this thread was incorrect...which is great. Great call on whoever posted "That's My Job" my Conway Twitty. My dad used to play that song in his truck for my brother and I when I was younger....I've never met anyone else who has heard it. Props.
Anyways. SWEDEN of all places has better folk/country that the crap you hear on the radio now. I love this band... I believe the singers are a couple of sisters. Really cool stuff. The blonde chick is hot. I think it's interesting how their accents blend in with the style. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ni7XyYdXYx8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Dr. J.....you can probably confirm this better than I can. But I have heard that many of the country artists love going overseas because they have such a cult following there. We get all the Country we want, but overseas they literally depend on the internet to get their "taste of country".
Is that true? |

I love Ronnie Dunn. Loved Brooks 'N Dunn and now Ronnie's solo stuff is just awesome imo. This song isn't just timely for the way things are now economically and with unemployment, it could have been a great song at pretty much any time in the past.
Ronnie has, to me, maybe the truest voice in country music. "Cost Of Livin" <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/OWjkDfRcCus" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Here's a cool live version too. One of the first times he performed it. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nBWjzBSt8eE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
This was Ronnie's solo debut after Brooks 'N Dunn called it quits. The part at the beginning is shot with his daughter who'd just broken up with her boyfriend. As the story goes she told him her situation would go well with the song and offered to help with the video so Ronnie set up a camera on his property and filmed a talk they had and they used the one little part in the video. His daughter and her best friend are in the video throughout.
Ronnie also said when the song was pitched to him he thought it was "too big" for him and someone more in the "larger than life" category should do it. He suggested U2 do it... and I can hear that... but the writter and studio wanted Ronnie to do it so he went for it. I'm glad he did.
