Same with me and the VHS but damn what a great copy to own.

Shit....I didn't see Scarface until around 6 years ago.

And in my case the first two were released before I or any of my older brothers were born. Just learning about how they are considered so great was one thing then finally finding the time and getting to watch them was a whole process.

BTW I'm sure I've shared this before but have you ever seen the Complete Epic 1902-1959.Sadly it's only available on VHS but I do own a copy and it is superb.

Now the complete uncensored story is available in THE GODFATHER 1902-1959, THE COMPLETE EPIC. Presented especially for the home video audience by Paramount Home Video. It contains all of the footage from the original theatrical productions including scenes never seen on television. Riveting in its fifty-seven year scope, THE GODFATHER 1902-1959, THE COMPLETE EPIC is a very special videocassette program.

Is that the old NBC version they would show back in the 70s and 80s where they edited everything in order?

Yep,it also included a lot of cut scenes added back in,one that I specifically like is when Hyman Roth is a young man being introduced to Vito.

All of this Godfather talk begs the question...

Which is the better mafia movie, The Godfather or Goodfellas?

My vote is Goodfellas, but it's damn close. And I'm talking just The Godfather, not a combination of The Godfather I and II.

I could probably say Goodfellas one day and the Godfather a month later. I really couldn't pick. They're both so great.

The Godfather, and it's not that close.

I personally also prefer Miller's Crossing and Road to Perdition to Goodfellas.

But we're just talking varying shades of awesome here. All great films.

This much is true.

It's also hard to compare The Godfather with Goodfellas in part because they're films about completely different mafias.

I'd agree.

To each his own, but I can't see how Road to Perdition would be better than Goodfellas. I could maybe see Miller's Crossing, but not Road to Perdition.

Yea, i love them both...who doesnt really? But Godfather is more densely layered.

I like most mob/gangster movies. Untouchables, Donnie Brasco, Casino, Carlitos Way etc...

I'm a big fan of Bugsy as well and while I'm thinking about it any recollection of a movie with Mickey Rourke about the Chinese mafia?

blaise 01-23-2013 11:49 AM

I watched The Long Good Friday a couple of months ago. It's a British gangster movie with Helen Mirren from 1980. It was good. Worth a watch.
