Drinking some Peach Kool-Aid right now. I'll probably crack open a Lindemans Cassis (black currant) Lambic later on.

Another side note, because of the down economy people aren't buying as much chocolate candy. Most chocolate candy (like a Hershey's bar) is made with cocoa butter, the byproduct of producing cocoa butter is dry cocoa which is sold to make beverages like chocolate milk and things like cake mixes.

Because cocoa butter production is way down dry cocoa prices have skyrocketed as well.

Hope you don't like chocolate milk or hot cocoa too much :D

I adore chocolate milk but I only buy milk from Shatto Milk Company near Cameron, MO, which I already pay an arm and a leg for. I won't notice the increased price with that product anyway.

aka Chimay Blue, their Belgian Dark Strong Ale, aka my favorite of the three Chimay beers. Very nice choice.

I've been going through some of the sour beers in my cellar lately. Last night I drank a 2005 vintage Cantillon Iris (an unblended Lambic that was, uniquely, wet hopped).

Tonight is a 750mL bottle of Lindemans Gueuze Cuvee Rene.

kstater 03-25-2010 06:58 PM

I had a LaFolie Sour Brown Ale a few weeks ago. Great beer, loved it. But the 22oz was way too much to handle at one sitting.

I'm with you. Its very nice but I don't want a whole bomber of LaFolie to myself. Its one of the most intensely sour beers of any style (not just Flanders Red ales) I've ever had.

Drinking some extras that a guy in Pittsburgh sent me in a beer trade between the two of us.

1 extra was a bottle of homebrew of his. The idea was Belgian witbier without wheat. Sort of a pointless idea and the beer itself proved pointless.

The other I'm drinking now is Newbold IPA from Philadelphia Brewing Co. It is weird. The hop flavors are all minty and spruce and tree bark and sap and oily. It isn't good.

I'm not complaining; these beers are just toss-ins. The actual trade was for some Great Lakes Blackout Stout and, more importantly, one of the 1,500 (yes, 1,500) bottles made of thr 2009 Gratitude Barleywine from East End Brewing.

Reaper16 03-30-2010 09:22 PM

I'm moving on to the third extra he sent me. Thankfully this one is good. I've had it before. Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. It is, in my estimation, the second best American Porter that I've ever had.

Had a Dogfish Head Chateau Jiahu last night. Its crazy in that typically Dogfish Head way. Let me quote the label for you:

The rice and barley malt were added together to make the mash for starch conversion and degradation. The resulting sweet wort was then run into the kettle. The honey, grapes, Hawthorn fruit, and Chrysanthemum flowers were then added. The entire mixture was boiled for 45 minutes, and then cooled. The resulting sweet liquid was pitched with a fresh culture of Sake yeast and allowed to ferment a month before the transfer into a chilled secondary tank.

3 beers tonight:

Dogfish Head Red & White - a witbier brewed with Pinot Noir grape concentrate and aged on oak

Goose Island Juliet - an American Wild Ale aged in wine barrels (of unspecified varietal) with blackberries

Rogue John John Dead Guy Ale - Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale that has been aged in Rogue Distillery's Dead Guy Whiskey barrels (a whiskey, one of three spirits made by Rogue, that is made from the same malt used to make Dead Guy Ale).

I've had Dead Guy Ale a bunch but I didn't know Rogue made whiskey too!!! Is it widely available?

I've never seen any Rogue Distillery products in MO. Oregon would have them for sure, maybe WA and CA. http://www.rogue.com/spirits/spirits.php for a list of Rogue's spirits.

Rogue is doing two more collaborations between their beers & spirits this year: their Hazelnut Nectar beer aged in Rogue Hazelnut Spice Rum barrels and their Juniper Pale Ale aged in Rogue Spruce Gin barrels.

Not sure about the two beers. The hazelnut sounds a little sweet and although I love Pales, I've never cared for spruce in beer. A little too "air freshenery" to me. Being that I live in CA, however, I am definitely going to try to track down some Dead Guy Whiskey.

Opened tonight with a Dogfish Head Black & Blue - an ale brewed with blackberry and blueberry puree.

Finished tonight with one of the rarer beers in America: a bottle of Three Floyds Dark Lord (2009 vintage).

Not bad,but Noble Pils. is better.

I scored some Blue Moon Gran Cru Belgian Wheat Ale for $3.98 a 750ml bottle. Basically half off.

It's not as good as the Boulevard SS Harvest Wheat but for half the price I had to snag 5 bottles.

Yum.

Its a good value for sure at that price but I still wouldn't buy it because I don't like it.

So I go into the Great Divide Brewing Co. taphouse in Denver, which was filled with Rockies fans getting a beer before the Opening Day game (Coors Field was like 3 blocks away). I order a Denver Pale Ale dry-hopped & on-cask, which intrigues an employee. We start chatting about beer and it turns out he was the Head Brewer of Great Divide! We're totally nerding out on beer talk when he decides that he'd give me a personal tour of the brewery! He also gave me a GD tulip, and I didn't pay for the multiple Espresso Oak Aged Yetis on-tap that we had together.

If that same recipe were called New Belgium Ranger Amber Ale then it would have been on of the better Amber Ales I've tried. But its labeled an IPA and fails remarkably at being an American-style IPA.

Evan & water. Same as yesterday, same as tomorrow.

First time having these two Imperial India Pale Ales:

Oskar Blues GUBNA - don't ever try it. It tastes like green onions and lawn clippings. Its a weird IIPA brewed solely with Summit hops, which apparently does the beer no favors. Easily the worst Oskar Blues beer I've ever had.

Port Brewing Hop-15 - Jesus, this was a strong beer. Somuch hop intensity. It was more impressively strong than it was good, however.

I went to the liquor store tonight feeling like tying one on and trying something different. I'm drinking Wild Blue Blueberry Lager right now and I didn't even notice at the store that it's 8% alcohol, nice.

KCChiefsMan 04-17-2010 06:34 PM

this Wild blue beer is too sweet. Good thing I have some labatt blue. ****ing Wild Blue beer says it's made by "Blue Dawg Brewing" and I just googled it and it's ****ing Anheuser-Busch.

THATS IT

I'm never buying another one of their products ever again. That's some shady ****ing dishonest bullshit right there, they know that people are starting to want local brews and support smaller companies with better beer and so they are disguising themselvles now so we be tricked into buying their shit? I'll do my research next time, **** that.

luv 04-17-2010 07:04 PM

I'm trying to decide if I have enough energy to drink. Went to a concert and had five beers and two shots last night. Went to my favorite bar today and had four beers, a strawberry mango martini, and chocolate martini, and a shot. I've have five hours sleep since yesterday morning, and just enough alcohol to help me sleep well. Add to that the fact I just went and had dinner with a friend, so I have a full tummy. I'm gonna pop in a movie, but I may be asleep by the time it's over. I really need to get the beer in my fridge drank, though.
