The emotions of each character could have been shown in just a few lines and some facial expression.

We've been watching, we know the characters. We don't need drawn out character development that we already know. Show Rick ask, show Shane answer, use two or three lines and move on to another scene. We got it, we're not dumb.
They try to get drama and conflict from these scenes about philosophical differences, and it doesn't work. It's more like time filler.

The worst part is that they don't have bad actors. I think this cast could pull off the understated moments and minimalist dialog. The one that rang truest to me was that each episode has about 10 minutes of "meat" with the rest being filler. Whether it's a result of budget, Darabont getting canned, or just poor writing talent, I'm not sure. It's a shame, though, because the show could be excellent if it finds its stride.

I like the smaller character scenes like the funny one with Glen and Dale in the trailer more than the ones with Rick and Shane, which did seem pretty drawn out and pointless.

Also, who was the young kid that walked up to the truck in the beginning? Herschels son? There was no introduction...nothing? I feel like theres a cut scene laying around somewhere?? There was also an young girl we have never seen before introduced as well. Odd.

Ha, I had the same reaction. I turned to my son and said, "Who the hell is THAT guy?"

Maybe they should do it like pop-up video: "For an identity of this character, watch the webisodes at AMCtv.com!"

Later Herschel said he looked after the kid but he wasn't his relation. It was clunky the way they introduced them.

I thought that when Rick first showed up to the house carrying his son, that kid and some others came out of the farmhouse and they all stood on the porch.

It seems as if some scenes showing/introducing everyone were left out.

The issue I have with the drawn out scenes is that we know whats coming at the end of it. There is no interest in the back and forth because they are saying things we have heard before.

Even the endings have turned out that way. You didn't need to be a detective to see the pregnancy and barn result coming. I still really like the show, but they do need to fix the back and forth between Shane and Rick. I personally am not a fan of the guy that plays Rick. He does a spasm every time he wants to say a line with anger or passion.

There needs to be some depth to the characters. To me Dale has some as well as Darryl. You look at the ultimate character development show like Lost. When characters spoke you knew what they were about but the end of the dialogue was still in doubt and kept you interested in what was going to be said.

I do like the the mini flashbacks. I am not looking for them to do it like Lost, but a little back story could help them. Atleast its a filler that gives some pay-off to the viewer.

They have shown people smash zombie faces better this year than last. They smash some zombie skull sometimes.

Sure-Oz 11-14-2011 06:31 PM

The last 2 episodes have been better but definetly lacking alot of 'meat' so far...needs to do better, alot better.

She's decided she will not become a victim. Hence the reason she tried to stay at the CDC and die. Since Dale "took" that from her, she will defend herself to the death.

I thought she was going to push the Chinese kid into the zombie pit for a second. LMAO

Personally I'd like to see an entire episode on the night all hell broke loose,I was really getting into that in this last episode.

We need more zombies. Looks like that will happen, but i just like them getting into trouble and them having to find ways out.

Aries Walker 11-15-2011 06:06 PM

I'm telling ya, this season needs a full-out farmhouse siege.

The Franchise 11-15-2011 06:58 PM

The first season is on sale at Target for $14.99 (DVD) and $19.99 (BR). Just an FYI.
