The cartel doesn't want to kill Walt, they want him for their own superlab.

Why else would Gus be willing to pay 50 million? He has the golden goose, and the cartel knows it.

Yep, this is the conclusion I have come to as well.

Walt still thinks he is in control, but the fact is that Gus could sell him to the cartel in a second without his consent.

But Walt admitted that Jesse made the Blue just as good as Walt, and now Walt sees Gus getting cozy with Jesse.

I don't think Walt really feels like he is in control, I also wouldn't say that Gus is really answering to someone, he is just trying to protect his product and see where he stands. It took the cartels a while to regroup from their last run in with Gus.

It may seem that way, but the amount of storyline time consumed by the first 3 seasons is only approximately 8 months.

This season has been the at the pinnacle of television (forever) thus far.

I'm trying to say that TV doesn't get better than this.

I wonder if Gus is gay?

Reaper16 09-05-2011 12:08 AM

Thought that came to mind while watching this superb episode. Not a spoiler, but a prediction? I'm tagging it anyway:
Spoiler!

Walt so wants to be 'the one who knocks', to live his life on his terms, as he told the other cancer patient. This season he hasn't been that guy at all - he is like a mouse in a scary maze, running frantically from corner to corner, occasionally lying to himself about being in control.
Everyone, this season, has some issues with their respective 'upper management's.

Zebedee DuBois 09-05-2011 08:21 AM

Oh!. An alternate plot direction:
Spoiler!

Demonpenz 09-05-2011 08:54 AM

What if Jesse finds "The game Genie" in his futon, and goes down to play Mario 3 with 100 lives and still can't beat it. Then he eats the Ricin himself because he decides that his life isn't worth it. Then Jesse leaves a note for walt that says "Find the magical whistle, it takes you to any level you want"

blaise 09-05-2011 09:50 PM

I'm guessing Gus was working for Pinochet? Some sort of high level drug distribution?
