It's just a less volatile environment away from downtown.

Considering it looks like some of them were packing semi-automatic weapons, it could have been a lot worse.

Careful. People will make fun of you for not wanting to take your family to a packed downtown with thousands of drunks roaming the streets at night while hoping you can utilize public transport without feeling or thinking your car might be at risk.

Was at a Ravens home game back in the early 2000s and my girl at the time and me were walking Inner Harbor right outside McCormick & Schmick's (the safest public place in Baltimore) and about two dozen ~15 year olds all dressed in white t-shirts and black jogging pants came running at us in swarm.

Pulled her over a rope and onto a thin walkway to a dock. Figured I'd only have to deal with one or two at a time and we were both good swimmers.

Ran right past is but was definitely a shit the pants moment. I don't do crowds often anymore.

We just don't know what we're looking at right now.

It's possible the older guy in the red sweats was detained because he was drunkenly arguing with cops in the aftermath or interfered or something. No idea if he's connected to the shooting.

I suspect the older guy was just a dude that had a gun on him and someone pointed it out. That whole scene looks awfully subdued in the photos we've seen with him.

Afterall, I guarantee you there were more than 2 folks down there who were armed.

I highly doubt that mag and grip are officer issued. There's also no way that rifle fits in the bag though, so it's hard to tell what's going on in that pic.

That’s not an officer’s weapon; that’s a 60 round magazine which isn’t issue. And a cop would never, ever set his firearm / rifle down. If he had to, he would sling it over his back or hand it to another officer.

There’s a buffer tube (red) poking out of the other bag, which leads me to believe that’s a pistol length AR.

Someone showed up with evil intentions.

Hit the deck with some people and then thought I was being dramatic and it was probably fireworks. Walked over to the First Things First set which had been my plan. It was normal for about 5 minutes and then security got Nick and Co off the stage. That’s when I knew shit was real. Then I saw people running from the east side of the lawn. So I ran up to the lawn in front of the Memorial so I could get a good view. At that time it seemed things calmed a bit and I felt safe enough to walk back to my hotel. Think next year I’ll watch on TV

About 30 years ago, I was at the Taste of Chicago 4th of July fireworks display near Buckingham Fountain. We were sitting there happily watching the fireworks when we heard screaming, and a few seconds later the crowd started surging toward us. I jumped up and attempted to pull my girlfriend up, but she got trampled on by three people before I was able to get her off the ground (luckily she wasn't hurt other than a couple of bruises). After that, we were running for our lives. That's about as scared as I've ever been in my life. I heard later that it started when some idiot started waving an Uzi around. That was the last time I ever went to an event like that.

Funny thing is, the local media completely covered it up. I even called a local news station when I got home to report it. Nothing. There were no cellphones with cameras back then, and the city obviously didn't want to **** with a major cash cow. But there is no way people weren't hurt that night.

People suck. Always have, always will.

Very little of that picture makes sense. I'm guessing the pic was taken while they were still getting the track star out of the dog pile. He was probably trying to run off with both his and his buddies weapon that police had already tackled on the other side of the sidewalk area.

Guessing part of the confusion about numbers is that some people were injured for reasons other than the shooting itself (i.e., during the panic).

Looks fake. Sharp shadowing doesn't match soft shadows. Not saying it is, just gives me pause.

I’m actually shocked this hasn’t ended up in the DC. Lasted longer than I expected.

There’s a buffer tube (red) poking out of the other bag, which leads me to believe that’s a pistol length AR.

Someone showed up with evil intentions.

Good eye - that's exactly what that it, isn't it?

So two idiots with guns.

Ok then.

Shooting at the parade

So perhaps someone who was on a gang’s list was spotted in public and the other group decided to take action?

In the video it looks like the guy tackled had a handgun that the girl picked up. Not sure where that other pic is from.

I'm assuming they checked to make sure the magazine was empty by that time so why separate the two? I don't think the police are that dumb.

It would appear we're only seeing the two idiots from one side of the conflict so far, though.

I’m not sure we can see enough of the rifle to know that for certain. There are bags actually designed for “fast” deployment of short barreled rifles. That doesn’t look like such a bag but, it doesn’t mean that it is certainly too small to hold an SBR, and that the rifle in the picture isn’t an SBR.
