As I said earlier I"ve been following the Chiefs since PMII was drafted here. Not hard to follow along when this guy posts more than the next 10 guys combined.

PmCakes 09-11-2018 01:24 AM

Looking at his contract I don't think Carr will be around come 2020 when he's just a 5 million dollar cap hit. They will have him compete for the starting job with somebody by next year

CoMoChief 09-11-2018 01:25 AM

Derek Carr is Jay Cutler, just in a different uniform.

PmCakes 09-11-2018 01:28 AM

I actually think Jay has a better arm and more intelligence. Just has no motivation to compete.

Wasn't even that much pressure last night overall. He is just shot mentally. It went to hell after he underthrew Cook on what should have been a fairly easy TD in the first half, but instead killed the Raiders night with an INT. He'll pussy it up again next week against the Donks.

Derek Carr will set the franchise back a decade. Not just because of what they're paying him, but they're pot committed. They moved Mack to keep this guy.

He'll go down in Raider lore as a mistake on par with Matt Cassel.

I don't think he's good, but he's atleast shown something before.

Carr that was a freaking stud in 2016 isn't going to show up on the field for Oakland again. PTSD, shell shocked, whatever you want to call it. Dude's mind is wrong and I'm not sure it can be fixed. He's top tier backup at this point.

He's that bad.

In his only truly good season he was a product of the best pass-blocking OL in football by a LOT and he was still a dunk and dunk artist.

He's not Jay Cutler or anything of the sort. He's a less mobile, more chickenshit Alex Smith with no particular leadership qualities. Dude is in the bottom 1/3 of NFL quarterbacks and very probably the worst QB in the division. Watching him regress after the national media slobbed his knob for 3 years is just a beautiful guilty pleasure....

Good thing that the Raiders gave him that huge contract that has the team strapped for cash and forcing them to trade away a game changing passrusher that they could not afford.

Yeah, he doesn't look good. I'm interested to see if Gruden can get any improvement there but once it's a pocket presence thing, eh, that's tough.

Sassy Squatch 09-11-2018 08:32 AM

Gruden jettisoning Crabtree for Nelson was mindnumbingly dumb. That was the one guy who Carr seemed to be able to depend upon.

RunKC 09-11-2018 08:34 AM

Gruden actually did a solid job last night. Too bad Carr ruined it for him. That 2nd half was awful.

Carr gave the Rams their last 10 points with his 2 picks LMAO

Now now - according to the broadcast team, Marcus Peters sitting in a zone against a TE who stopped his route and catching a ball that hit him in the chest before trotting past some O-Linemen for the score was a remarkable play. We can't really hold that against Carr...

DJ's left nut 09-11-2018 08:50 AM

I knew I had a Carr rant in here somewhere:

Because the media has anointed him one?

Alex Smith was a demonstrably better quarterback than Derek Carr across the board last year. The ONLY thing Carr did better was throw more often. His QBR was lower, his AV was lower, his AYA was lower. His ****ing yards per COMPLETION was even lower. He threw the ball 100 more times than Smith and with that managed 500 more passing yards....whoopity doo!

This year Carr appears to have taken a step forward....and been outplayed in head to head matchups by Alex Smith both times they've met. And frankly, it's been a walk both times. Smith played much MUCH better football than Carr in those two games.

**** that - Carr's done nothing to earn any mantle yet. Oh sure, he might. And he's probably more likely to do so than Smith. But this ****ing season-long coronation of Carr is garbage.

Thank God the era of Carr ballwashing is over and I don't have to hear anymore about how we screwed up by passing on him. The dude is as average as a quarterback gets. He's a pure system player with fringe athleticism and mediocre arm talent. He's just...there.

Some of his worst picks are from throwing these dumb lob passes when the pressure gets close to him. It's mind numbingly bad. I thought Del Rio was the issue but this just verifies he's not a bright football player.

Carr isn't good. He's not gonna be good. The absolute best case scenario for him is that Gruden is a wizard that masks is deficiencies in a similar manner to Weiss hiding Cassel' awfulness for a year.

Again - the guy was a dink and dunk artist even in his 'ascending' years. Now he's feeling phantom pressure and will almost certainly never have the kind of line that made him so comfortable in 2016 again. He doesn't have any stand out physical skills and he's regressed in his accuracy.

I only wish they were staying in Oakland so he and Jimmy Grapes could co-exist as overpaid game managers and the bay area could just be awash in expensive mediocrity.

I noticed that yesterday. I guess I didn't really consider it on the run-up to the season because of how much 'name' talent they racked up, but they really are lacking true edge rushers.

Now that said - while it may not end up reflected in their sack figures, their ability to push the pocket back will still make things uncomfortable for QBs. Rushes straight up the middle into a QBs lap will wreck plays more often than not.

and Cooper is looking more and more like Bowe out there as well.

I mean, I know the Raiders cap situation is nice and they won't have to pay Mack now - but where the hell do they spend the money? Carr's getting cut or heavily restructured after 2019 and Cooper may not even stay on the team to play under his 5th year option next season.

What the hell else do they have to spend money on out there?

I really thought he was gonna be good...maybe since I live here, I bought into the local homerism/hype I dunno...

I'm still not ready to think he "sucks" yet.....I mean the raiders have a pretty crap team and played a great half of football.....against a very, very good team and they hung in there...much closer than that score would suggest.....they did have a collapse at the end, mainly by Carr..so...yeah

I hate all things raider but for some reason I guess I just liked this guy. He seems nice and there is a non-raider quality about him that he is a genuinely cool guy.....truly this might sound corny but I dont think the chiefs win the superbowl without a VERY VERY tough afc west. So as much as I hate the raiders I find myself not really celebrating Carr being shitty. Having the raiders continue to suck is not good for our team, IMHO......

But yeah, Gruden isn’t the best look for a struggling QB

Your boy has ASU ranked!

Yup. Hes not the 2nd coming of Rodgers like some thought in 16' but hes also not a bad QB.

I totally disagree with this. The Oakland offensive line is still VERY good. They allowed hardly any pressure all night, especially when you consider who they were going up against. Most of Carr's mistakes (and all of his interceptions) were unforced, and had nothing to do with poor protection or poor skill position play.

He’s getting paid like an elite QB.

He’s not even close to it. He’s average to slightly above average at best.

Let’s continue to act like this is an overreaction to one game though. Anybody that can’t see what Carr is at this point is a ****ing moron. Straight up.

I’ll be honest man. The Rams game is one of 3 where I don’t think Mahomes will have a good game and will struggle. That defense is so loaded.

But Carr still blew his own dick off last night. No excusing that.

The Patriots have won plenty by beating the shit out of a terrible AFC East and saving their bullets for the playoffs...

Decent chance he does, but he’s not a vet with a big contract and he doesn’t have the interior OL in front of him that Carr does.

Oakland’s OL matches up well with the Rams, and he still struggled mightily.

I remember when Smith and Dalton were getting paid like elite QBs now that's about an average salary for QBs. That stuff seems to change year to year. The Raiders have a trillion dollars in cap space they would be dumb to move on from Carr IMO

Gruden is back to his 4 yard crossing patterns.

When the chiefs play them, I bet you'll see a similar defense as last year's opener against New England, where Houston and company dropped back into those passing lanes and punished the hell out of the NE receivers on those cheap crossing (pick) routes.

The damage is already done/started. His contract is what kept them from keeping Mack, their best player that is damn near impossible to replace.

And QB money is QB money. There’s a reason that us and the Bengals struggled to put enough talent around those two to actually win in the playoffs with them.

If Carr has a clean pocket and doesnt hear footsteps he is phenomenal. The second he hears footsteps or his pocket starts getting crowded he gets happy feet, fear and pisses himself. If Gruden can`t fix him this year, Carr will be gone before next season. In fact Carr`s contract is front loaded so they wont even take much of a cap hit if Carr is gone next year.
