1974 take on Ed Gein... this is no campy baloney, it takes the matter seriously and was a revelation of a horror film for me, just caught it tonight

Incredible period detail and no BS acting throughout

Damn, I'm going down memory lane right now. It is October. I'll probably have to go through and watch all these.

Agree, Childs Play 2 was the best one. Even dressed up my little guy with the ruler lol.

I haven't seen Gerald's Game, but the book was pretty weak, imo.

I think this may be the worst era ever for horror movies. Outside of horror comedies, I can't think of a truly great horror flick from the last ten years.

I think the horror genre is a microcosm for movies over all the past decade or so. Tons of garbage being put out there. I certainly agree that horror along with comedy, have been the two hardest hit in terms of drop of quality.

Mennonite 11-05-2017 09:52 AM

I think the action genre has taken a hit, too. CGI has replaced most great stunt work.

I always use the car jump scene from The Man with the Golden Gun as my example of stunt work vs CGI:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fzCIbhLUUA0" frameborder="0" gesture="media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Granted, it's a stupid scene, but the stunt itself is extremely impressive. Someone had to risk life and limb to do that scene. The audience knows this. These days, you see a car do a flip and the most you can say is "that looked fairly realistic." It's the difference between doing something impressive, and someone drawing a picture of something impressive. And sometimes those pictures look fake as hell.

Another gutsy stunt scene:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7B7NOT1vr44" frameborder="0" gesture="media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And I don't think modern action stars look as believably tough as actors from previous generations. Bronson, Eastwood, Schwarzenegger vs who? Tom Cruise? Jason Statham? Mark Wahlberg?

No comparison.

Finally Saw The Witch (2015)

Which is an amazing film, not sure if it had been mentioned on here before.

Swanman 11-30-2017 09:10 AM

I saw a couple of good found footage films recently. Normally those kinds of films are complete garbage but these two were pretty good. One was Hell House LLC. It's a movie about a group of people running a haunted house and on opening night a bunch of deaths happened. The movie then goes back and tells the story leading up to opening night through footage shot from the haunted house company.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kZ40kOmOgEI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The other was Found Footage 3D. It is kind of a dark comedy mockumentary about people making a found footage movie but has a crazy twist at the end.

Completely forgot about this show. Don't think i even finished season 1. Not because i wasn't entertained though.

Rented a movie I'd never even seen advertised off On Demand the other night called 'It Comes at Night'

Stars Joel Edgerton... its a post apocalypse tale that takes place somewhere in America after an undisclosed disease outbreak

It definitely isnt a standard horror flic, and the title is a bit misleading... but its well worth a rent, the acting is solid across the board, and the story keeps you guessing and tensed up throughout

I was about to pull the trigger on this one with the wife tonight but watched 3 or 4 reviews that pointed out an ambiguous ending and a big lack of payoff at the end.

I punted on it and watched 3 eps of a Netflix show about serial killers and loved it...

The ending definitely isnt what I'd expected, wouldnt say its ambiguous, you pretty well know whats happened at the end... but yeah, its more about the horror of the human condition than anything else

I watched the horror movie Presidents Day last night that my man Chris LaMartina directed - he's the guy that did WNUF Halloween Special - he needs to stick to the WNUF genre/style. Presidents Day was horrid.

I watched The Babysitter on Netflix. It was a fun movie, plenty of gore but mostly comedic in nature. It takes many stereotypes and just turns them up to 11. Imagine Home Alone but with a satanic cult instead of burglars.

It jumps around because there’s a lot of backstory with this one. But it’s good imo. Much more gore and tension than the first season once it gets going.

I watched The Babysitter on Netflix. It was a fun movie, plenty of gore but mostly comedic in nature. It takes many stereotypes and just turns them up to 11. Imagine Home Alone but with a satanic cult instead of burglars.

I got a kick out of this movie, went in with very low expectations. Samara Weaving is a smoke show!

I'd like to make out with her - minus the two knives to the head!

Watching Freddy vs Jason. I've always wanted to see it now I own it with a collection of Nightmare on Elm St.

I watched this tonight.

Solid performances, keeps you guessing, excellent use of the location, the big bad at the end is revealed and I'm still not sure what I saw there or what it is.

7.5 out of 10.

So far this year THE DEVIL'S CANDY (9 out of 10)
The Void (7 out of 10)
Troll Hunter (8 out of 10)
Beyond the Gates (6.5 out of 10)

Normally not a fan of Australian produced films - but this was pretty good - a decent rainy day film. I'd give it 6.5 or so - 8 out of 10 seems far too high IMO.

Freddy vs Jason was awesome.

Leprechaun vs Chucky would be ****ing great, too.
