I watched the entire SWCE on Yahoo last weekend and the Rebels panel was awesome, especially Dave Filoni.

They showed a sequence in which they screened Thrawn's first episode for Timothy Zahn, who was very happy with the results.

It'll be interesting to read the new Thrawn book next year to see how the character fits in the new canon.

Lucasfilm has started sending out more info on the Star Wars Rebels Season 3 premiere including title, description, and more. The Season 3 opener is entitled “Steps into Shadow” and will be one hour long. Check out the official description:

“Having established a secret base on Atollon, the Ghost crew, now led by a more powerful Ezra, strengthens the rebel fleet by acquiring new resources and recruits eager to stand against the Empire. However, the Imperial efforts to eliminate the rebellion are now being led by the coldly analytical Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose strategic, tactical and cultural insights make him a threat unlike any they have faced before. In season three, Ezra and Sabine take on new roles and challenges as the rebels prepare for their biggest mission yet – a direct assault on the Empire.”

Star Wars Rebels
returns Saturday, September 24th, 2016.

That's pretty damn close to the Thrawn from the books based on the trailer. I know those books aren't canon but they are definitely drawing heavily from them. Thrawn was a great villain that could easily be written as the protagonist, like he was in "Outbound Flight". He is ruthless but also principled.

Ezra is going to die.

I guess there was a confirmation from Katee Sackhoff that she is voicing her Character from The Clone Wars in Rebels.

Not a big surprise with the promotional stuff a while back that had Sabine with the darksaber but the death watch arc was among my favorites in the clone war run so I'm glad to see that storyline back.
