I had a feeling that the McGann doctor was involved at the start of the time war and found that he didn't have the makeup to do what was necessary. The Hurt non-doctor will then take it too far and leave it to Eccleston to clean up the mess. That is why the 9th Doctor is so personally angry about the whole thing.

IMO this doesn't take away a regeneration for the Doctor since the seers brought him back, he didn't use a regeneration.

Is the 50th special going to be longer than a normal episode?

Think so. 90 minutes maybe. Not sure about that though.
