Does hacking actually become fun the more you play? It has the same depth as Watch Dogs so far, so I'm just going to drop it and go full on shooter if that's the case.
|
I’m super early on, less than 2 hours, but **** I’m already engrossed in the world and can’t wait to play more....I’m a sucker for dystopian hacker / Cyberpunk stuff and this is hitting all the right notes so far. What I’ve seen so far of Night City (not a lot) is amazing and I want to see it all.
Def. going back ASAP.... |
|
The game is sure good looking, there's no doubt of that. Especially at night.
Got me some legendary Mantis blades last night. Hoo boy... https://i.imgur.com/9O3VoF0.jpg |
I've been grinding street cred just so I can pick them up.
By the way, the missions where you retrieve lost cabs for the Delamain company - GOLD! LMAO Easy way to pick up cash, too. |
So... I was like 12 levels into the game before I discovered that you can upgrade any weapon or armor item you have. You don't have to travel anywhere, just straight from your inventory. Just requires materials. I love that.

I've played for almost 35 hours and I still have no clue what I'm doing when I try to breach a system.
Just for a perspective on how big the map is, I stopped the main quest at the beginning and just did side jobs around Watson. 30 hours and 20+ jobs later (not including countless assaults) I still have around half of Watson left to explore. Not half of Night City. Half of Watson. |
I had the same problem as you. When you're breaching you select the first combo from the top row, then you go down vertically from where you started to choose your second combo, then from that combo you go horizontally to choose your third, and it alternates like that.
|
|
Breaching was really confusing at first. Feels overcomplicated. But there's a method to it. Look up a few guides about it, and you'll figure it out pretty quickly.
I wouldn't recommend ignoring it completely, because that's where the best upgrade materials come from. You can also find/buy some materials. Or get materials by breaking down existing weapons. But breeching gives you so much more, and you're guaranteed to get the kind of materials you want by pursuing that specific breech code for the device. Considering you can craft/upgrade any item as much as you have the materials for, it's easily the best way to get the best weapons. Find a good legendary weapon that works really well for you, and just continue to upgrade it. You can make an insanely power weapon this way. At this point, I go out of my way to hit every breechable machine for those upgrade goodies. |
Wait, you can get weapon upgrade mats from breaching? Seems like I always get quickhack mats.

Playtime: 27 hours LMAO

So... I found another weapon that seems about as overpowered as the Mantis blades...
Fenrir. Power submachine gun. It's the first rifle that's felt powerful/fun enough to use successfully. It's a pyromaniac's dream. It has a burn bonus that seems to happen about 95% of the time. Just pepper the enemy with 4-5 shots, and they burst into flames screaming in terror. You can just stop shooting and laugh as they burn and die. It's very satisfying. I've had multiple situations where 4-5 enemies were all screaming and running in different directions. I found it in a mission helping a couple buddhist monks who had been forced to have cyber implants installed against their will(LOL). I've already upgraded it several times, and plan on continuing to do so. If you just pop off short bursts at a time and avoid full auto recoil, it's a beast... https://i.imgur.com/Tjkb8yK.png |
There's a legendary coat in the northernmost part of the map. Seems like it scales with your level and it looks decent too. It's around the corner from a crime event.

Where the yellow line is. There's a neon sign near the road. Behind it is a car on fire with the body holding the loot near it.

don't want 2 work don't want 2 go on dates with stupid girls football stupid don't want 2 watch nemore football god dammit |
I bit the bullet and turned all RT off. The difference in reflections is STARK but the low FPS is just too much to take. Sacrifices had to be made in order to get smooth gameplay.
This game will look incredible on 4000 series cards. In the meantime, here are the best places to get more FPS at little to no cost in terms of the visuals: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pC25ambD8vs" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> Even without RT, this game is an absolute stunner. Goddamn! |
LMAO... Spoilers because this is probably the most powerful machine gun in the game, and it's a bit of an "Experience"...
Spoiler!

I feel bad for people who spent $60 and experienced those issues.
It doesn't sound like it affected everyone the same even on the same consoles, though. Interesting. |

Oof. If this is actually how they went about review copies then I'm gonna have to revoke that praise

My ps4 performance has been so bad that I've only been able to play for 45 hours since launch.
|
The oddest part about all of this is that this has been a ps4/xbone project since the beginning. Seems strange that those are the consoles with the most trouble.

reddit is full of idiocy, but someone did have a theory that, in my mind, sort of jived with what we are seeing. Basically, the idea was that at some point, CDPR decided to change their approach and start making the game for next gen/PC and then optimize it for current gen (current at that time). They miscalculated the amount of work and optimization it would take them and that lead to the initial delay from April to September and then to December. I don't see any other explanation. I think given their track record, the GOTY edition will probably look great and run great on both gens. I'm also a firm believer that this game would have been delayed another few months at the very least if it weren't for investor demands. |
Funny thing is the stocks actually tanked after the release. They really ****ed themselves here.

Sony is basically telling people to **** off and wait for the patch if they bought it digitally. LMAO

I imagine it will recover because this game really is good enough to push millions of copies more. I'm a fanboy of CDPR because I liked Witcher 3 so much, but just taking a step back and even objectively looking at what they have been able to achieve with this game, it's ****ing stupendous. |
It's already my favorite open world game ever. And I'm not out of the prologue yet.
(Seriously, I'm level 12, street cred 20, 40+ hours in playing on the highest difficulty and I haven't even run The Heist yet). |

I don't have as many hours into it but I am loving everything about it so far. I'm planning on spending a lot of time in the game tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday, though. :D |

Maybe I'm playing it wrong, but the hacks and stealth just don't do it for me. Hacking is legit point at the enemy, pick an option, and watch sparks fly out as he flails. Does it improve if you invest more skill and perk points into it?
|

I mean, I use it when I have to, to open doors and stuff, and I do ping areas and occasionally burn or short a target, but my INT is 5. I'm mostly about the gunplay. Which I'm liking way more than I expected. My eventual Corpo playthrough probably be my hacker. And then my street rat will just be a big dumb maelstrom that clubs people with sticks. Although I might reverse those two just to flip the cliches. |

(I also haven't ever finished Inquisition, although that one is much closer to the end). I think after 20+ years of fantasy rpgs, I'm just really excited to get a good future set rpg. The original deus ex's and mass effects and kotor's are just so rare in my experience. Whereas there's usually several fantasy games a year. I mean, shit, Baldur's Gate 3 next year looks awesome. I am going to go back sometime and get The Outer Worlds. I've seen enough streaming to know I'll dig it. |

The thing I've discovered doing so many sidequests is that this game, to me, seems more about building the world as a whole than telling a singular story.
There is an incredible, almost overwhelming, depth to Night City and the people in it (and over it). |
Thinking back Witcher 3 kind of sucked at launch as well. Hopefully they can regain back all the good faith they had built up with post launch patches and the amazing DLC they'll inevitably drop, but that review bullshit is inexcusable.

LMAO It wouldnt be a CDPR game without a glitch to make quite a bit of money illegitimately. Next time you're near a soda machine buy them up and disassemble them. That's all I'll say.

There's a legendary cyberdeck you can buy pretty early on that's a real quality of life upgrade. Makes the hacking feel much better.
|
|
So many moments when I just stop and take in the scenery.
I always cycle through armor every time I get something better, so the pics are always crazy different. Which results in my character looking everything from Cam Newton to Blade Runner badass and sometimes a mix of both. LOL. Except for the damn hat. My hat has like an ~80 point armor bonus so I've been wearing the stupid thing for a long time. Sometimes looking like a forever virgin mall ninja. I put all resources and upgrades into weapons, and just rely on looting for armor. https://i.imgur.com/Qn4PcHK.jpg |
Skippy is awesome. That is all.

Just had my first real bug. Inventory wouldn't work. While my character had no pants on.
Reloading saves didn't fix it. Was starting to panic but fortunately a shutdown and reboot appears to have fixed it. |
I ended up with a serious bug that really freaked me out because I only had one save file. I finished a mission, and all of a sudden I could not equip any weapon, or use any item. If I went to inventory and tried to equip one, it said "Action not allowed." Restarting the game didn't help. I looked it up online, and saw quite a few pages about it. The recommendation to fix was to somehow activate a cutscene. I went to a couple mission starts to see if that would work, but it didn't. The webpages said the easiest way to find a cutscene was to go to a hooker. Found one on the map after travelling a really long ways.
It was a ****ing male hooker. Got my guns back though.... |
I've been obsessive compulsive about saves the whole time. I rotate between about 10.
|
Sequence broke a quest that I have no way of finishing now, so that's nice. It was a side mission so nothing to get too upset about, but I've read that there's potential for that to happen quite a few times throughout the game.
|
I've been looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 for years. Constructed a whole gaming rig around the prospects of playing one of my favorite settings built by the same studio that made Witcher 3. No, I was not expecting Witcher 3 IN THE FUUUUUUUUUTUUUUREEEE, but I was expecting the same level of quality.
It pains me to say this, but the world feels....dead. Just this past hour, I wandered around breaking up 4 assaults and it all felt the same. Even the side-quests are nowhere near as satisfying as I had hoped they would be, and yes, I was at least hoping that the side-hustles would be of Witcher 3 quality. The bugs don't bother me. I've only had one show up and it was hilarious (my gun wouldn't stop automatically shooting into a crowd when equipped). I put way too much into this game to move on. I'm more than willing to give it a shot to pick itself up off the mat, but I have no idea if what I've listed can be "fixed" with a patch or five. The Witcher 3 had issues from the start and it morphed into one of the finest games of all time. I have to hope that the same scenario plays out here. |

Sometimes I wonder what game other people are playing. I've done probably 40 different side jobs just in Watson, every single one has provided some background details about what's going on in the City, and a number have branched off into other side quests.
There's a ton of depth there. Maybe people aren't reading any of the shards? And no, I'm not counting the police stuff, the assaults and bounties. Although a few of those have some interesting details, too, about police corruption. But those mostly feel like random world events. But the fixer stuff? Maybe it's just me. Maybe I was burned out on standard fantasy. Because this game has held my attention way more than Witcher 3 ever did. I'll actually finish this one. Eventually. A week and a half vacation doesn't appear to be time enough |
Hey baby. How you doin? Wanna hang out?

The world building and attention to detail is staggering in Cyberpunk. If I start thinking about the amount of work that alone took, I start getting anxiety, LOL. |
I'm reading every shard and every e-mail I come across.
It's also fun to listen to NPC conversations. I wish there was more. I keep finding new ads to laugh at, too. All of the ads are hysterical. I've played 27 hours and there are two places the game won't even let me get close to right now. Both frustrating and amazing. I jumped into the water and tried to swim out to the space launchpad and it blocked me. LMAO |

It seems shallow because of the terrible AI and simplistic gameplay. Not too much to do besides ride around shooting up places and laughing at edgelord humor. Seems like they spent 8 years crafting this beautiful world but forgot to give you anything meaningful to do in it. |

The single player story is written well, missions are decent, gameplay is OK. Graphics are amazing. As far as sandbox open world? Pitiful. Nearly every other modern open world game has done it better. Cant think anything even close to recent with a shallower 'open world', including the studios own IP in witcher 3. it is what it is, and it aint what it aint |
