Crennel is coaching in the East West Shrine game later in the month. Maybe they are waiting until after that to wrap everything up.

Do you have to be unaffiliated to coach the Shrine game?

Dolphins dump Paul Pasqualoni

Posted by Mike Florio on January 11, 2010 6:02 PM ET
In a surprise move, the Dolphins have announced the termination of defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni.

"I want to thank Paul for his services to the team, and I want to wish him the best," coach Tony Sparano said in a release.

Pasqualoni, who served as head coach at Syracuse from 1991 through 2004, was hired as an assistant in Dallas under Miami V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells. Pasqualoni then became defensive coordinator in Miami under Sparano in 2008.

Our first reaction to the news was that the Dolphins possibly are jumping into the bidding for Romeo Crennel, who reportedly is heading to Kansas City. But we can't imagine Parcells and his son-in-law, Chiefs G.M. Scott Pioli, getting into a tug-o-war over Crennel.

The other possibility in this regard would be that the Dolphins have decided to pursue Mike Zimmer, who worked for Parcells in Dallas before Parcells resigned following the 2006 season. Zimmer's contract in Cincinnati is expiring at the end of February, and it's possible that the Bengals will release him from his obligation sooner than that.

booger 01-11-2010 05:32 PM

Pasqualoni and Pioli have a history. Pioli was a grad assistant when he was on the staff, don't know if it was During his HC years at Syracuse or before. Michael Smith or whoever from ESPN who had all the news and guess's about who Pioli would hire Had Pasqualoni as a darkhorse candidate along w/Houston Nutt when they were still dragging things on with herm.

Haley and Pasqualoni coached in Dallas together. He was TE'c coach then LB's. So he could be considered for either side of the ball or even as a scout/personel guy under Pioli.

I guess they could make a run for Romeo but then i would hope Pioli/Haley wouldn't hesitate like they would before of interviewing Bowles for DC. Also the Groh connection makes the most sense but i also read he could be hired as the new DC at Georgia Tech.

The interesting thing will be if Clancy accepts a demotion or not. With all the questions about staff changes Haley has said he knew it could be a 2 year process from the start and all of the coaches understood that.

chiefsfan1963 01-11-2010 05:33 PM

Great news! Maybe this will get us 2 more wins in 2010 and 6 more in 2011 once we fill the holes on our roster.

Most 3-4 teams do something like that. It seemed to me in camp and the preseason it seemed like Anthony Pleasant worked quite a bit w/ Hali Vrabel and Studebaker along with the DL.

I could see him being hired on full time as a OLB/DE assistant in whatever they title it. Possibly the main DL coach if Crennel is DC and can groom him.

I like Dan Quinn from the seahawks, Mike waufle of the giants, talking about joining the skins, or greg blache of the skins as possible DL coachs.

He was stating that up until recently (before this past season) we had been running the 4-3.

With them not renewing Joe D'allasandres contract as asst.OL coach i could see them hiring Pasqualoni as TE coach and moving Bicknell back to OL to assist Muir since Muir could probably retire any time within a couple years i would assume.

Also be interesting about Dedric Ward since he was demoted and Richie Anderson took over what happens to each of them.

FTR, I would love for Crennel to be the DC of the Chiefs. He's the guy I wanted last year. I hope this happens.

Giants' candidate Crennel joins Chiefs

http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/giants...ylzTTgr5Hj3wEI

6:28 PM, January 11, 2010 ι By PAUL SCHWARTZ
One-time Giants assistant and former Browns head coach Romeo Crennel will not be the new Giants defensive coordinator. Crennel has been hired to run the Chiefs defense.

Crenell never interviewed with Tom Coughlin but the Giants did express some interest.

One candidate Coughlin has already interviewed, former Bills head coach Perry Fewell, was in Chicago to speak with head coach Lovie Smith about the Bears defensive coordinator job. Fewell is considered the front-runner.

Fewell, once Coughlin's defensive backs coach with the Jaguars, met last Thursday with Coughlin with the understanding he was in the running for the Bears defensive coordinator job. Fewell worked in St. Louis and Chicago for Smith and it appears the two will work together again.

Another interesting possibility: Mike Zimmer. His contract will soon expire with the Bengals. Zimmer successfully ran the defenses for the Cowboys and Falcons and did a solid job this season in Cincinnati. Zimmer may attract some interest around the league as a potential head-coaching candidate.

Tom Cable is expected to be fired as head coach of the Raiders and if he is, Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride is again likely to get an interview. Gilbride last year interviewed for the job.

the GMen have Peter Guinta on staff. they should hire Clancy and they could be co DC's. Vermeil would reccomend it. Guinta was co DC on his super bowl team. Then Herm could go to USC and hire Greg Robinson and Chan Gailey as his coordinators and the world would be a better place.

booger 01-11-2010 05:51 PM

Or pete Carrol could hire GRob since they are buddies, as his DC in Seattle. That would be swell.

From what I was told last week, he will be given the option of being the secondary coach with Ronnie Bradford. I think he's going to stay. Crennel I believe will coach the DLine as well. There were discussions of bringing in the Giants fired dline coach, but I'm not sure that's an option now.
