He could have physically played another year or two. But yes, glad he didn’t drag it out.

He had a foot issue that probably helped this decision to retire this year.

I liked Rivers

his meltdowns were classic

I was there in person when he killed us in the last few moments of the game

I was also there in person when he fumbled a snap and lost the game in the last few moments ROFL

So long phylis

That is my lasting memory, haha.

I hope he saved enough money to put those 20 kids of his through school. Bye Phyllis.

Nobody snatched defeat from the jaws of victory quite like Phyllis Rivers.

Deberg_1990 01-20-2021 10:21 AM

If I remember right, he got Carl Peterson fired.

Good choice, Not sure he is HOFer.

He is because there are far lesser talents already in.

The Colts will be praying the Jets go with a QB and trade Darnold.

Modern day Dan Marino, lots of stats, lots of meaningless wins.

Marino was way better, IMO.

Rivers was impressive, though. As Bueh said, it is difficult to win in the NFL. If not for a few plays here and there (I'm looking at you Marlon Mcree), his trophy case might not be empty.

Most impressive thing for me is his toughness. He was a heck of an Iron Man. I think it was like 250+ straight starts. Even played through a torn ACL at one point.

Bye, Phyllis. You were fun.

PAChiefsGuy 01-20-2021 10:42 AM

Good decision by him. He's trash

Kman34 01-20-2021 10:50 AM

I will not miss him...

Yep.

This is why you don't sign old stop gaps unless it's Brady or Manning. They've put themselves in a position where if they can't trade for a QB, they won't get one.

This is a perfect description of Rivers. Never really knew when he was going to ball out and take a game from you, or when he was going to give you back a game he had all but won.
