That's the full amount of the settlement. The amount for credit monitoring is only $31m, which is what everyone is claiming here.

Wasn't impacted, but thanks for the heads up.

That's...not how this works. It'll be months or even years before checks get sent out.

It’s been broadcast all over the news. Out of the 150 million affected it’s going to 470 million filing the claim. Hello 6¢/per...

Months yes, years NO.

I've been part of about 3-4 claims for class action suits and the longest I waited was about 4 months.

The mechanics are usually all in place to execute once the last day to file begins.

Unless someone makes an egregious claim, they just pay to end it and make it go away.

Wife and I were both on the list. I think how much you get varies on how many hours you said that you spent on the claim.

FYI Credit Karma has free credit monitoring

FTC telling people to choose the credit monitoring cuz there isn't enough money to payout to people based on "the overwhelming response". Seriously? They're the ones who created the fines. Did they think no one would claim it? 31 million was never going to cover damages

Quote:

The FTC released a notice Wednesday encouraging consumers rushing to get a $125 check from credit ratings agency Equifax as restitution for its 2017 breach should consider the credit monitoring option instead. That’s because an “overwhelming response” may mean Equifax runs out of money before satisfying all the claims.

“The public response to the settlement has been overwhelming,” the FTC notice reads. “Because the amount of money set aside for the cash payment option is capped at $31 million, consumers who select that option may not receive the $125 they had expected.”

The notice continues, “For those who have not submitted a claim, the FTC is recommending that affected consumers consider choosing the free credit monitoring service, which is worth hundreds of dollars and comes with identity theft insurance and restoration services. For consumers who have already chosen the cash option, the settlement administrator will e-mail those consumers and provide them with the opportunity to either (1) submit additional information, or (2) switch to the free credit monitoring service. Consumers can also contact the settlement administrator directly.”

Why would they? The penalty for this shit is laughable, really.

Oh wait, disregard my post. I missed the part about the repayments only being capped at $31 million. WTF? Why is there any limit at all?

This is worth watching.....

https://www.kare11.com/video/news/lo...f-5c3f74bbe98c

Said you could take the 125 or get 10 years of credit monitoring. If more people take the 125....you could get less. My question-Is that 125 tax free?

If so-I would still take the 10 years of free monitoring.
