This OL is elite at run blocking IMO

Mitch Morse is a hell of a center, but Fletcher Cox is a different breed of cat and if there's anyone that can give Morse problems, it's powerful rushers.

I think the Iggles put up a fight the first half, then the Chiefs come out and burry them in the second half.

I am not sure how they are going to cover all the Chiefs weapons. On the other hand I could see the Chiefs defense dominate at home.

Chiefs 30 Iggles 17

So after a year of average at best run blocking suddenly the same dudes are elite? After one game?

At least LDT's problems in the run game are an issue of technique and not strength/attitude.

It's not impossible that the technique issues would've been ironed out over the course of the off-season and camp, or at least improved.

But yeah, I'd definitely need to see more before I convince myself that a relatively poor run blocking unit in '16 is suddenly elite.

Weren't the pats elite vs the run last year?

The Franchise 09-13-2017 10:24 AM

Chiefs - 23
Eagles - 20

I don't think we'll put up 500 yards of total offense in this one. Hunt is going to find it hard to run against this defensive line. I think Hill and Kelce both catch TDs from Smith and Santos hits 3 FGs.

Was't essentially the same unit bad at run blocking last year?

Each year's different. It's possible the Chiefs O-Line suddenly got light years better at run blocking. It's possible the Pats D suddenly got significantly worse at stopping the run.

That's why we need more data points. It never made much sense to me that least year's team was a bad run-blocking team but the eyes and the metrics (especially after Ehinger went down) sure supported it. This team has the size/strength/athleticism on its OL to be an outstanding run blocking unit but I have a hard time just taking that on faith right now.

The Pats were clearly tired at the end of that game though. We picked up like 100 rushing yards just because of that.

The Franchise 09-13-2017 10:30 AM

If the Chiefs run against the Eagles like they did against the Pats.....then I'll believe that this offensive line is elite. That Pats defensive front was horrible without Hightower.

I dunno - the sweep with Hunt was just textbook. I'm not sure a fresh defense would've been able to do much against that; the execution by the blockers (especially Kelce, IIRC) was just outstanding.

Though West's burst up the middle sure looked like a team that had folded, I'll grant you.

You must have missed them beating the shit out of Seattle's elite run defense a few weeks ago.

But hey Semen has turned the corner and is awesome after 1 game amirite?!

They're a full ZBS ol now with dudes that are athletes. I think big strong dl will still give them fits but they've improved there for sure.

Biggest thing I think improved is a rb with vision. As much as I like ware it seems Hunt just has a better feel for when to go and when to not

*shrug*

It's a huge leap of faith to say last year's meh unit is suddenly elite in run blocking, especially when Kareem Hunt was picking up tons of YAC.
