Remember spring training, when signs of new pitching coach Mike Maddux were plentiful? What happened? Perhaps this is a side effect of watching Greg Holland remain on the mound for spiked pitch after sailed pitch until a game was soured due to the closer's lack of control and the manager's lack of a hook, but I can think of zero tangible signs (so far) of Maddux intervening to stop manager Mike Matheny's most-confusing bullpen decisions.

A roster spot is still being spent on a pitcher who, for the most part, doesn't pitch. Matt Bowman continues to get called to the mound at an eyebrow-raising rate. And what was up with leaving Holland out there Monday night when he clearly did not have his stuff? The hope with Maddux was that problems would be predicted and avoided, not reacted to once they occurred. So far, it doesn't seem much has changed.
Maddux is a clear upgrade over that fat bastard Lilliquist, but he can't force Matheny not to be stupid.

I'm not sure using BA is a great indicator in this day and age of baseball.

Watching the game now on Facebook watch. Multicasting to my big screen TV. Picture and sound are great. No difference between the normal Cards broadcast in pic or sound quality. Broadcasters seem better than our usual lame ass announcers.

Wouldn't you think with Ozuna hitting behind him he would get pretty much the same pitches he gets at lead off?

Its such an oddity that he hits so much better at lead off.

there is no explanation for it other than it’s all in his head. And he can’t change it in his mind. Which he should be able to. It is what it is at this point.

You may find this interesting. The claim is its not that Carp is better at lead off its just that he is streaky as hell.

we have seen it with our own eyes for YEARS. That’s not a “streak”. There is no baseball reason or explanation.
