Box wine may not be your cup of tea, but this time of year I go buy a box of rose' and drink it up over the next month or so - watching football or after yardwork. The La Ville Ferme Rose' they review in the link above is my fave - but 'Black Box' rose' is a good 2nd choice IMHO. The ex loved rose' wine - I loved getting her lit up on the stuff, and just so it didn't look like the set-up it was - I always drank along with her. Got to where I liked it too, and still try to keep up the tradition. You never know - she might wander back in if she hears I've got her pink wine and a lawn chair. It always used to work.

ETA: I talked myself into running out to buy a 3L box of dry Rose' on sale - grabbed a handle of Cutty on sale as well - to help justify my gas money. It's hard to explain the leaps of acceptance that occurs when I'm justifying gas money on liquor store runs. It doesn't have to make sense - it just has to help keep daddy's liquor shelf full.

Not drinking tonight, but tomorrow is my birthday, and it's shaping up to be one of the shittiest ones in my memory, so after work I'm going to have at least a double Whistlepig 12 year straight up and probably one belt of The MacCallan's 12-year Single Malt Scotch on the rocks.

Amen.

I used to never be a Scotch or Bourbon drinker, but "healthy" is/was a reason for developing a taste. I take my time with it, and that's good...

Drinking whiskey has shown to help lower triglycerides.

We should all drink 1 glass of whiskey every day.

I like Titos - but it's spendy. Ask for some Polish vodka, give it a try - you can buy 2 or 3 fifths for what they charge for a fifth of Titos. Tito's may be 'better' but not by much. And that whole 2 or 3 bottles thing gives me a reason to figure.

Wild turkey gets a bad rap. It's not bad for that price range.

What brands of polish vodka are readily available? I usually just buy the Costco brand and am very happy but willing to keep my eye out for others at the liquor store

BigOlChiefsfan 09-30-2022 08:13 PM

Enjoy what you like - and stay home to drink it.

BigOlChiefsfan 09-30-2022 08:16 PM

Re: Polish vodka -- walk thru your nearest good liquor store, see what you spot. Most vodka drinkers drink what they know is good - I married one, I know what I'm talking about. Ask the guy behind the counter what vodka from Poland he's got. Russian vodka may be cheaper - but to hell with those guys.

Yeah WT is a fine bourbon IMO paid $20 but **** I can't tell if it's a supply chain thing or just demand but the liquor store was selling Makers for $28 bucks. I remmeber a few years ago when it was $20. Not worth damn near $30 IMO

Didn't say it was bad memories. They make a great bourbon.

I have been getting the Knob Creek 100proof from Costco. Saves a little bit of $.

Need to get back to St Croix or St John and bring back a case of decent rum for reeeeaaaaalllllll cheap.

I like Jamesons better. Three Gingers is decent as well.

Worth the price? I'm partial to Laphroaig. just picked up a bottle of the Select, looking for the Laphroaig 15 (It's the new King's favorite), but Proper 12 is always right there.

Should I?

Indian Chief 10-02-2022 01:23 PM

I really did not like Proper Twelve. That's a really sanitized version of what I said when I first tried it. There are so many better options for Irish whiskey -- Green/Yellow Spot, Redbreast, Tullamore DEW, Glendalough.

Oh btw, I know the whole alcohol is alcohol thing is true. But this shit got me extra wine drunk. Had a couple martinis and then killed that bottle and woke up on my couch at 4am wondering wtf was going on. I just remember my head feeling like it was floating and then I was out.

Will do again at some point but I really don't get too ****ed up off much of anything unless I just obliterate whiskey and this was a different drunkenness altogether.

Going to have some whisky tonight with a cigar.

Sounds fantastic! They're pretty solid from what I've tried.... I've tried a couple that were really on point, and a couple that were probably a bit of an oversell ("double fudge brownie stout" being more like "there's some chocolate there").

Bearcat 11-19-2022 12:55 PM

Purchased this a couple weekends ago and it's pretty damn good... mostly coffee flavor, with a little bit of whiskey, and it's really smooth (only 33%).

Got hooked on Grind espresso rum for a while, but it has a ton of sugar in it and it's hard to find. First Light isn't nearly as sweet, which is nice.

I have tried some other pastry stouts and didn't care for them either, but this really is easy drinking motor oil. Peanut butter all the way thru so I was very pleasantly surprised and really could have went after two more of those 16oz. cans and been alright but saved them for another session.

Bearcat 11-19-2022 03:07 PM

I was in Anaheim the other day and had to pick up this guy, not sure I've ever tried a "BBA Sour Imperial Stout".

It's a lot of bourbon, but opening up more with a nice cherry flavor. They can be a bit hit or miss, but they do a lot of stouts (I think 75% of their tap list the other day was stouts) along with Bottle Logic only a couple miles away.

360 makes some great vodka!

I've mixed the double chocolate with this and it's delicious, and their lemon vodka makes a great limoncello drink... and I'm not big on drinking straight vodka, but I'm sure they're tasty on their own, too.

Beer and vodka, a tried and true formula

Bearcat 12-18-2022 12:03 PM

I had a really good coffee whiskey, but it went rather quickly on previous weekend mornings with 9 or 10am games... and I'm actually short on beer, too.

So, at the moment all I've got is 10am 124 proof bourbon... will see how this game goes and whether it'll get opened. LMAO

Now I’m going to go inside and turn on the game
