New AD isn't gonna stand for this kind of 'progress'.

Word going around Twitter (Petro) and campus is that Beaty has been canned. Announcement supposedly tomorrow. Could be BS, but it’s picking up steam.

Lzen 11-09-2018 09:01 AM

Lots of smoke about Les Miles. What do you all think of that possibility? And, if not him, who would you prefer?

Reerun_KC 11-09-2018 09:06 AM

Les could bring them from the depth of hell to 6-6/8-4 type seasons in 3-5 years. Be regular at bowl games....

What more would a KU fan want?

Fansy the Famous Bard 11-09-2018 09:09 AM

The only thing about Miles to me is that he's 64. How long would he coach? another 3-5 years then we'd be in the same boat? I dunno... i guess it's better than what we've been dealing with the past 10 seasons.

Les will have the clout to hand it off to someone legit when he’s ready to step down. I doubt he would leave the program in the dumpster like every joke since the big Twinkie was here.

I think we finally have an AD who knows WTF he's doing, especially when it comes to finding a good football coach. So, even if Miles were hired and he left after 4-5 years, I have faith that Long could get another good coach. And Miles would have the program in good shape by that point.

All I want as a KU football fan is for them to not have losing records. I would like them to be in a bowl game pretty much every year and once every few years, they challenge for a New Year's Day bowl game (by getting to 10-2/11-1). I don't think that's too much to ask.

But I can't see Miles not getting ****ing crushed by Big 12 offenses without SEC defenses.

But yeah. I won't throw a fit either way.

considering our past AD was so bad that he was trying to do hundreds of miliions of dollars of fundraising to build up a football stadium that only gets about 10-15k attendance because the team is so bad. Long at least understands that we need to improve the team and put cash towards that instead of a stadium.

He’s throwing cash on top of the stadium, not instead of.

Les Miles name has been thrown around as a replacement for Barry Odom and meh. He has a championship and is in his mid 60's--not convinced he isn't looking for anything more than one more payday.

Probably Urban Meyer.

Guys are 'splash' hires precisely because they can recruit.

The underappreciated position coach will take years to develop recruiting cache and that just won't work at KU. They need to challenge a 5-6 win season in the first couple of years to give themselves a foundation to build on.

It's gonna be a lot easier to do that with a Miles sort who has relationships with key coaches that can jump-start that process.

Agreed. The worst part was that Maryland administration initially voted to re-instate him... and only fired him because players literally walked out on him.
Long would be answering to Chancellor Girod and a bunch of very angry donors if he made a hire that stupid.

You guys can have Odom if you want, all you gotta do is ask nice. I mean, he's no peach but he's better than anyone you'll be able to land. Think of it as a gesture of goodwill between our peoples.

Titty Meat 11-10-2018 09:23 PM

It wouldnt be a sexy hire but Dave Doren would be a great get. He has Kansas roots, was great at Northern Illinois, and has had 1 losing year at NC State which was his first. He knows how to develope talent (Bradley Chubb anyone?)

I get the appeal of Miles but it's so much easier recruiting at an SEC school. His offenses the last few years at LSU were really really bad.

TambaBerry 11-10-2018 09:32 PM

he was 39th in offense in 2016 and 77th in 2015 thats not really really bad lmao

LSU announces settlement with former football coach Les Miles

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2018/n...-les/?football

Quote:

LSU and its former head coach Les Miles reached a financial settlement Thursday that clears a path for Miles to take another head coaching position.

The 65-year-old Miles has been considered a top candidate for the Kansas football coaching vacancy since Jeff Long, KU’s athletic director, announced David Beaty’s firing on Nov. 4.

According to a press release from LSU, both the school and Miles, who was fired in 2016, agreed to a “one-time lump sum payment of $1.5 million of the $6.5 million remaining in the original agreement, which would have been binding until 2023.”
This says to me that the guy is ready to get back into coaching. I think he will be coaching next year, whether that be at KU or somewhere else.

Lzen 11-16-2018 09:16 AM

It's a little different than the Charlie Weis situation. Les Miles has sustainable success and has proven he can build programs (at Okie State too)

FloridaMan88 11-16-2018 03:57 PM

Les Miles is exactly the type of hire Kansas needs... big name, will excite the program, and a good recruiter.

Obviously he has his limitations as a championship caliber HC, but wouldn't building a program that is consistently bowl eligible and wins 7-8 games a year be enough to satisfy KU fans as they pass the time until basketball season begins each fall?
