To get fast enough internet, it's about $80/month. Then you've gotta pay for programming, still.

I fail to see where anyone saves.

That's an exaggeration. You can stream 1080p video with a 3Mbps connection. Streaming 4K only requires 25Mbps. If you have a house full with 5 HD streams going at once, you might need $80/month internet. But that's certainly not necessary for most. Sounds like some ISP flunky fed you some bullshit...
  • Netflix: 3–25 Mbps
  • Hulu: 3–16 Mbps
  • Disney+: 5–10 Mbps
  • HBO Now: 5 Mbps
  • 4K video: 25 Mbps
  • Music: 2–10 Mbps
  • Twitch: At least 4 Mbps download, 3–6 Mbps upload
  • Mixer: At least 4 Mbps download, 2–4 Mbps upload

your mileage may vary, as they say...I cut the cord in September.

Pre-cut, I paid a total of 250 @ month, that included a 50mbps internet connection, analog phone line, 'ultimate' TV package which included all channels verizon FIOS offered. I had to rent a DVR and two other cable boxes for other TV's.

Post-cut, I upgraded my internet connection from 50mbps to 1000mpbs, cut the phone line, returned the cable boxes and cut TV, subscribed to Playstation Vue, Starz, bought two Roku Ultimates...

My monthly expenditures went from 250 to about 170 @ month...80 buck a month aint nothing to sneeze at.
