Yes. One of my favorite labels. I've gone through several bottles of Bourye and Rendezvous Rye

O.city 08-21-2019 06:51 PM

Awesome

I’ll have to pick up a bottle

Miles 08-21-2019 07:15 PM

Really enjoy the stuff from high west. Double Rye is great for the price but like the Bourye (particularly limited sighting if you find it) and Rendezvous more. Best I’ve had of theirs is Midwintersnight Dram but impossible to find for sale.

Awesome, thanks

I’m not sure what all they’ve got at my liquor store I didn’t look that close. It’s weird how stuff is so different regionally. I can get some stuff here all the time and my buddies in kc can never find it and vice verse

And I never answered from a while back when I had the papaya I think it was the 8 or 10

It was good but for what I paid meh

High West has some great stuff (many blends, many sourced) but still fantastic stuf. Their basic stuff is a good place to start. Double Rye and American Prairie Bourbon as good starting points for most.

Since it's double the cost (here), it's nothing special

Yeah if it's just ok I dont want to spend 80 bucks on it. I'd rather get Blantons but they are so damn extra with their supply

Blanton's at $70 is till over-rated as well. That's another, should be $40 bottle. Nothing special about Blanton's.

I was able to get my hands on a bottle of Dram last fall. It's terrific stuff. Gonna try and get another one this year.

Opened a bottle of Jefferson's Reserve last night to sip on while I was revisiting Lonesome Dove. I am now revisiting the Jefferson's Reserve.

One man’s opinion. I think Blanton’s is great and I’m guessing I’m not alone since it’s so hard to get. I’m going with Corner Creek tonight which is fantastic for the price if you can find it.

Miles 08-30-2019 10:17 PM

Got lucky enough to find a bottle of Weller Antique today and seems like Buff Trace finally increased the MSRP to the $50 range. I’m fine at that price point but it’s not the crazy bargain it was at around $30.

I would think a man of your class wouldn’t be drinking such swill.

Branch out. Evan Williams black label is cheaper and better if you’re just making shitty whiskey and Coke’s.

Should have stocked up, but pretty confident it'll still be on the shelves for a bit.

Found myself a honey hole well outside of town that regularly stocks Eagle Rare, Colonel Taylor Small Batch and Straight Rye, Weller, among other hard to find bottles.

Roger that. No Bourbon and Bones today, sitting at a proper north side bar with some of the boys.

Different thought : you ever think of doing one of those bourbon distillery tours?

srvy 08-31-2019 04:49 PM

Just picked up a bottle of Koval single barrel to try. I have been hearing good things about it from friends. Its distilled at Koval Distillery on Chicago of all places.

So I had been seeing it around in various spots at 48.00 a bottle wasnt willing to bite at that price. On a whim I went in a liquor store that opened near me but haven't checked it out thinking it was a discount smokes and liquor clone. Low and behold its a awesome store. Great selection of craft beers and bourbon. They had Toval marked on sale for 36.00 and I jumped. I am excited to try a pour tonight. Also has an awesome selection of airline trial bottles of bourbon and said he can get a little bit of everything. I like those to try out before you bite but he didnt have trial Toval. I was also told if cant find it he will try and locate at a reasonable price.

Old Forrester 100 proof
Larceny

Elijah Craig
4 Roses Single Barrel
High West American Prairie Bourbon

All of these can be had for less than $40 and pretty easy to find.

Buffalo Trace is my absolute favorite Bourbon. The above list, plus Ezra Brooks and Eagle Rare (which is fantastic), are all very good as well and are an almost complete list of the best bourbon I've tried for under $40. Blanton's is awesome, but around here you can't get it for under $40, sadly.

The only one I'll add is Stonehammer. If you like sweeter, very smooth bourbons, this one is great. Fantastic taste, great neat, and a splendid mixer. It's probably my second favorite Bourbon after Buffalo Trace and it's pretty dirt cheap around here. If I was going to recommend something for someone to try which is delicious, inexpensive, and not Buffalo Trace, it would be the first name off my tongue pretty much every time.

I know Lew was just flipping me shit, which is no big deal. That said he's definitely one of the more opinionated bourbon drinkers itt that assumes he knows what people should like/not like - which I always find a little comical for sure.

I have opinions on the various bourbons I collect, but I don't give advice on what people should/should not like. Just like beer, not everyone has the same taste buds, so things taste differently.

I've got a bottle of Jefferson's Ocean at home, it's a perfectly good bourbon. Nowhere near my favorite, but it tastes just fine going down.

Same.

But, for the person that just has a bunch of Well bourbons sitting at home, that Jefferson's Ocean would taste damn good.

Has anyone heard about their liquor store's starting to receive their allotments for the fall season? In KS/MO, store's usually start receiving the higher-end stuff around Nov 1. The store I shop does a lottery for those bottles.

Hopeful to get my hands on any of the following this year: Old Forrester Birthday, Four Roses Limited Ed Small Batch and anything from the Buffalo Trace 2019 Antique Collection. I'd also take an Elmer T Lee 100 Yr Tribute if I find one.

Just recently came across a bottle of Michter's 10 Yr Single Barrel and a friend gifted me a bottle of Pappy 10 Yr.

I collect bottles of bourbon like Prison Bitch collects Gay Porn. I'd guess I have about 20+ different bottles on hand right now. Some of them I have purchased, and others I have received as gifts. I won a bet with a coworker on who would win more games this year Cards or Cubs so he owed me a bottle of decent whiskey. I told him Woodford Reserve would be fine.

Picked up a bottle today, it's good! Incredibly smooth, good, complex flavor, and still packs a punch. I'd still put it behind Stonehammer and Buffalo Trace personally, but perhaps I should get a bottle of each just to verify...

Either way, very enjoyable, thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not much of a drinker. I'm wondering if I have a potential drinking problem though because whenever I see people on TV pouring themselves a drink I have an urge to do the same. This started about a year ago when I binged the Ray Donovan show where he's constantly pouring himself some kind of whiskey.

Does this happen to anyone else? Do I need help?

No problem, glad you like it. I agree that it is smooth almost too smooth. I use less than half the water I would for Pendelton or Buffalo Trace.

Jefferson Reserve is pretty good. Knob Creek slightly chilled is nice. I have become a fan of chilling my drink rather than using ice as it doesn't water the drink down. Knob Creek at room temp/no ice I would go with single barrel. I haven't tried their smoked maple yet.
