First time watching his tape and this kid looks really good. Has speed and is bendy for his large size. In one play he was triple-teamed and still managed to sack the QB.

Sassy Squatch 04-27-2023 10:18 PM

Got some weird ass names at DE. Karlaftis, Omenihu, and Anudike-Uzomah. Reminds me of when our secondary was a Key and Peele sketch.

InChiefsHeaven 04-27-2023 10:18 PM

I feel like the Chiefs did very well with pick 31. This guy is quality and not a reach IMO. We have 9 more picks. There will be movement tomorrow for sure. I'm pretty excited with this pick.

He's pretty clearly a Chiefs-type pick. He's self-made hard-worker with a non-stop motor.

Very safe pick for KC, in my opinion. I don't like him right now against the run but he's going to be able to grow into it here which is good. Certainly brings a great speed rush off the edge right away in sub-packages and our edge rotation should be fresher throughout games. He's similar to a younger Frank Clark to me, so Veach/Spags definitely seem to have a type at RDE.

My only real disappointment is passing on Hyatt. He could have put that explosive player back in the KC offense. But eh, there are plenty of WRs that might do that yet.

Kind of hopeful they make a move up for Benton tomorrow, really want that cat on the interior DL.

Iconic 04-27-2023 10:20 PM

One great thing about the pick is we are officially set on DL, for now. I kind of ****ing love that. Two young up and coming edges.

Eh, not too bent out of shape because we absolutely needed a complementary pass rusher and Omenihu isn't really a complement to GK. Just really would've been intrigued by Porter Jr.

Onward and upward. He'll be a player and a fun guy to cheer for.

Going to be weird seeing someone in Clark's spot who's going to be able to do that

Seems like a pretty clear path long term but maybe Crow is right. The talent just absolutely leaps out at you. The measurables and size are legit. why's he still on the board?

Gotta be something we don't know.

The only thing that I can think of other than some unknown character/learning flaw is maybe teams dislike his hips/feet in transition more than we think.

I also like Benton and see DT as a major need. Would be a really nice fit.

I don’t want Nnadi playing any significant number of snaps. I’ve seen enough.

Thanks man.

I thought one of those guys that went in the last half of the draft were going to fall to us, but FAU was my worst case scenario pick (in terms of how the board falls).

Bascially, there are quite a few guys I would've taken had they fallen, but he was my BPA (outside of Porter Jr.)

jjchieffan 04-27-2023 10:25 PM

I would still like to bring in a free agent DE on a one year deal like Dunlop or Clark. Let that player take most of the snaps early, and increase snaps for Felix as he gets acclimated.

siberian khatru 04-27-2023 10:25 PM

Dane Brugler’s summary:

Quote:

STRENGTHS: Well-built and transformed his body since arriving in college as a lean 220-pounder ... flashes power in his hands/arms/shoulders to press blockers off him and find the football ... aggressively attacks the corner with a head of steam and joint flexibility mid-rush ... effective use of stabs (and ghost stabs) to pry open an outside rush lane ... motor always runs hot and consistently keeps his pursuit alive ... alert and sees through blocks to slam the door on scrambling quarterbacks ... shows the awareness to feel the screen, redirect and chase down ... physical hands as a tackler, which also helps him dislodge the football (eight forced fumbles over the last two seasons) ... humble player and competes with the “nobody believes in me” chip on his shoulder ... played in every game the past two seasons ... outstanding production, leading the team in sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles each of the last two seasons.

WEAKNESSES: Short-striding rusher with only average get-off and lateral quickness ... stiff at the top of his rush and struggles to flip his hips/shoulders around the corner (physical offensive tackles can toss him) ... physical, strong hands, but his secondary moves and counters aren’t as thought out as his initial attack ... speed-to- power has inconsistent results, often stalling out because of inconsistent leverage ... average base strength in the run game, especially versus doubles, and will lose edge contain ... inexperienced dropping into coverage to defend quick routes ... underwent minor offseason knee surgery (January 2022) and missed spring practice; didn’t work out at the combine because of a right foot injury (March 2023).

SUMMARY: A two-year starter at Kansas State, Anudike-Uzomah was a right end and lined up on the outside shoulder of the tackle in defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman’s 3-3-5 scheme. Despite Kansas State being his only Power 5 offer out of high school (as a blueshirt), he became one of the most decorated defenders in school history as an All-American and the 2022 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year (25.5 tackles for loss, 19.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles over the last two seasons). Anudike-Uzomah mashes the accelerator with strength in his joints to angle his body and pry open rush lanes with his power. He can shock blockers at contact, but his refinement is a work in progress, and he is inconsistent as an edge setter versus the run. Overall, Anudike-Uzomah has only average get-off and arc speed as a rusher and must become more consistent in the run game, but he plays hard and mixes up his rush to keep his pursuit alive, which is what he does best. He projects as a physical, face-up power rusher with the impact potential to compete for an NFL starting role as a rookie.

You are not wrong, his weakness is the run, but that's to be expected as he only played 2 full seasons at Kansas State. But his pass-rush toolbox is definitely advanced for his age and has a high motor.

His best position appears to be when he is aligned on the outside shoulder of the tackle. That's his strength. His effectiveness does decrease if he has to play inside shoulder of the tackle.

Overall, if the Chiefs keep him as strictly an outside edge with an occasional inside on obvious 3rd and long passing downs, I think he'll do just fine in Spags aggressive scheme.

Yes, this.

40 time for a DT/DE is irrelevant. The 10 yard and 20 yard and 3 cone times are more important (as well as bench press).

I've watched the guy all season at K-State. There were times when he straight up manhandled some linemen at his current size. I think he's got the frame to bulk up even more. Great length, and he seems to have big strong hands, as he makes a bunch of tackles when reaching through defenders.

I'm good with this pick. That said, I don't think Veach is going to be sitting on his hands tomorrow. I'd look for him to bundle some of those low round picks and move up in the 2nd and 3rd to grab a TE and RT.

I'm really OK with our WRs right now. KT will have all off season to work with our trainers, Moore will have a little more love from PMII, and I think Justyn Ross is going to be a stud. MVS will be good for 700-800 yards and Watson will be the occasional contributor and ST guy. You'll have 5 guys battling for that #6 WR spot.
