I haven't heard it and cant seem to find it, but still no one is going to talk about locker room issues with Berry (if there are any) especially the guy thats trying to get a new contract.

There may be resentments that aren't even being vocalized in private. Some guys might be carrying it inside and keeping their lips tight, talking only to other team mates who are not happy, and doing so far away from the facilities.

You never know.

You would think at least a few guys would be pissed about it. I know if I was Tyreek then Id be pissed. Tyreek is getting paid next to nothing. He plays a more valuable position then Berry and could be argued as the best WR in the league. He also played through injury even though hes getting paid peanuts.

lcarus 01-10-2019 10:36 AM

I guess I just don't understand the injury situation. They could've surgically repaired his Haglund's a long time ago. If that bone spur is causing him pain it isn't gonna magically stop.

If it's just a matter of playing through pain you do what you gotta do to minimize it and play in the playoffs right?

This is what happened in my view, he's likely had the issue for a long time. He's always tended to favor one side because of it..he blew the achillies on that side so now he's uncomfortable favoring it so now his heel is far more painful because of that.

He is thinking about his contract and how much of it he can see and he's prolonging any type of surgery that may require his other achillies to be unattached because a DB wtih 2 surgically redone achillies is probably done.

His decision making on the issue absolutely sucks for the team but I understand it's for business, he's going to make the Chiefs pay him as much of that deal as he can.

The reality is this, players don't think like fans, especially fans with the emotional capacity of a 13 year old girl.

Do the players want him out there? Hell yea.

But if you think the other players on the team think Eric BErry is soft you are clueless as ****.

Have you seen a single ex NFL player make a single remark about Berry's character on social media, on TV, or on the radio?

I know you have not because I haven't and I listen to, read, and watch as much NFL stuff as you do I am certain. Most likely more.

I would think some guys would be pissed because they know how valuable he is when he's on his game and running the defense. I mean, the D has been pure dog shit for the most part this year and ANY advantage, ANY help at all could be the difference between continuing on in the playoffs or going home early.
In the past, this wasn't much the case but now that they have this prolific, killer offense and QB, I'm sure those dudes are antsy as **** when the team gets in situations where the defense needs to come through and get a stop.
And not having Berry out there becomes a bowling ball on the scale as opposed to a pebble during Smiff's tenure.

That's the thing, EB doesn't seem like he's just out partying. He's still on the sideline every game, helping the team, talking to players.

I hate to see him hurt like this though.

The Steelers are an outlier. Tomlin has allowed that locker room to fester into something truly toxic.

I think it's an absurd thought process and no my belief is not reeruned. Players back other players 99.999% of the time and we aren't talking about Matt Cassel, we are talking about a 3 time All Pro who has come back from multiple injuries and Cancer.

Seems like Berry has an actual problem in his heel and may be refusing "pain relief" to allow him to play. Meaning, doesn't want to take the needle.

Who outside of Antonio Brown or Le'Veon Bell have been called out for not playing through an injury? And Bell wasn't even called out because of an injury. He was called out because he chose to hold out.

I just asked Mellinger his thoughts on this and whether he thinks any players have hard feelings over Berry not playing. It will just be his opinion of course but I would guess he knows more than us. Ill report back if he says nothing of interest but I doubt he does.

Also its been pointed out Berry took his approach to the contract negotiations because the team didn't even offer him a contract after his rookie deal and franchised him without an offer and he played that year on the tag. At an All Pro level I might add. They could have gotten him cheaper the year before and been a year farther down the road on the contract.

Chiefs screwed this up in many ways.

I agree with Marcellus. I don't see how you can get mad at a player for getting hurt. How some of you can joke about one of our players getting injured blows my mind. Let someone come and and put a bat to your ankle and we will see how funny you think it is then.

People tend to lack sympathy when he makes a ton of money and he can't play cause he's sore. It's the suck it up and deal with it attitude...the same attitude that a lot of people apply to themselves when they go to work everyday.

suzzer99 01-10-2019 11:43 AM

Berry is still by all accounts the emotional leader of this team. If the players had any doubts about his toughness or willingness to play through pain when possible, I doubt they'd still flock to him.

I'm gonna go with their assessment over some dudes on an internet forum.

Sweet Daddy Hate 01-10-2019 11:50 AM

And why do players get pissed about the tag? If the GM comes to me and says, "I need to shore up this and this and take care of this other contract which is due right now, but I'm going to pay you more in guaranteed money for ONE year than you would see in one year of a 5 year contract, and then we'll get you signed before the start of the following season", why the **** the bad blood?

So afraid of an injury that you can't make it one more season on your initial contract? You know, the one you SIGNED?

Sassy Squatch 01-10-2019 11:52 AM

Berry is getting paid to play football. Not to sit on the sidelines and wait for his spirit to tell him to play. I love Berry. I wish he was playing, but this shit is a total cluster****.

At his rate of pay, he should have done whatever it takes to get on the field as soon as possible. He isn't doing that.

Cut him today if he isn't going to play the rest of the year. There is a higher probability that we don't see him play again in a Chiefs game than to see him this weekend or the rest of the playoffs.

If folks want him cut then that's their business. But to suggest he should be used "until he snaps" and then "thrown in the trash" is straight gutter talk to me. They don't look at these players as humans imo, they are there to entertain and then thrown away like garbage. It's pitiful and much of the fans "love" for these players is fake as fuck

Maybe if Berry gets a ring this year.....he'll retire in the offseason. The dude's body is just done and he's made enough money that he can go take care of himself outside of football.

UChieffyBugger 01-10-2019 12:26 PM

The injury report later will reveal everything we need to know. Chiefs reporters are claiming that he missed "the start" of practice, so who knows if he might do some light work towards the end of it? Might be clutching at straws, but even if he doesn't play on Saturday, if we were to win and he's back for the championship game then all will still be well in my eyes. Sadly the Berry haters just can't get over their tedious "spirit" jokes and constant moaning about his paycheck. Meanwhile one of our top guards sits on the sidelines and is being paid a fortune but no-one ever mentions it!!!.

The guard that broke his leg? Yeah, I hate that he can't play.

The fact that you equate these two situations, man, just take a step away.

He can't step away. Everything to him is a race issue. We all bitch about Berry because he's black but nobody bitches about LDT or Morse because they're white. Even though tons of people have been bitching about Morse and want him gone this offseason because he can't stay healthy.

Honestly, I’m so over people pulling the race card that I refuse to engage with this moron.

Have you seen all of the people crying about the lack of black HC’s and the shorter leash they have?

Are you that ****ing stupid?

FOR TWO STRAIGHT YEARS HE'S GOTTEN INJURED AND IS GETTING PAID TOP DOLLAR FOR HIS POSITION. IF YOU'RE TOO THICK TO WORK OUT THAT HE'S ALSO COSTING THE ORGANISATION "MONEY" (LIKE BERRY) THEN GO BLOW A LAMPOST, BECAUSE I CAN'T HELP YOU BUDDY  .

So Berry ruptured his achilles and has bone spurts as a result. Are you suggesting his injury is not bad too? And whatever happened to LDT is beyond the point. He was injured LAST YEAR as well and missed several games. But hey, like I said, NOBODY WANTS TO TALK ABOUT IT and nobody mentions his paycheck  .

LDT - in three seasons he's missed 18 regular season games. His cap hits in those years? $2.7 million, $5.3 million and $8.2 million.

Berry - in three seasons he's missed 29 regular season games. His cap hits in those years? $5 million, $13.5 million and $16.5 million.

Yep...totally the same thing.

I find your use of the word leash in this comparison offensive. Please stop /sarcasm.
