I guess I just don't understand the injury situation. They could've surgically repaired his Haglund's a long time ago. If that bone spur is causing him pain it isn't gonna magically stop.
If it's just a matter of playing through pain you do what you gotta do to minimize it and play in the playoffs right? |
Quote:
He is thinking about his contract and how much of it he can see and he's prolonging any type of surgery that may require his other achillies to be unattached because a DB wtih 2 surgically redone achillies is probably done. His decision making on the issue absolutely sucks for the team but I understand it's for business, he's going to make the Chiefs pay him as much of that deal as he can. |

Do the players want him out there? Hell yea. But if you think the other players on the team think Eric BErry is soft you are clueless as ****. Have you seen a single ex NFL player make a single remark about Berry's character on social media, on TV, or on the radio? I know you have not because I haven't and I listen to, read, and watch as much NFL stuff as you do I am certain. Most likely more. |

In the past, this wasn't much the case but now that they have this prolific, killer offense and QB, I'm sure those dudes are antsy as **** when the team gets in situations where the defense needs to come through and get a stop. And not having Berry out there becomes a bowling ball on the scale as opposed to a pebble during Smiff's tenure. |

That's the thing, EB doesn't seem like he's just out partying. He's still on the sideline every game, helping the team, talking to players. I hate to see him hurt like this though. |

@AdamSchefter: Eric Berry said his spirit is good to play on Saturday. His spirit, I’m told, is still day to day. #chiefskingdom #spirit #haglunds #frankgallagher #paidtosit

I'm not the dumbass here, I assure you of that. |
Seems like Berry has an actual problem in his heel and may be refusing "pain relief" to allow him to play. Meaning, doesn't want to take the needle.

In reality could some of those guys be annoyed at Berry? Yea absolutely, some of the older players who may be coming to the end or a fringe guy who thinks this is his only shot...
Just they're not dumb enough to say it to a reporter. |

Who outside of Antonio Brown or Le'Veon Bell have been called out for not playing through an injury? And Bell wasn't even called out because of an injury. He was called out because he chose to hold out.

I just asked Mellinger his thoughts on this and whether he thinks any players have hard feelings over Berry not playing. It will just be his opinion of course but I would guess he knows more than us. Ill report back if he says nothing of interest but I doubt he does. Also its been pointed out Berry took his approach to the contract negotiations because the team didn't even offer him a contract after his rookie deal and franchised him without an offer and he played that year on the tag. At an All Pro level I might add. They could have gotten him cheaper the year before and been a year farther down the road on the contract. Chiefs screwed this up in many ways. |

I agree with Marcellus. I don't see how you can get mad at a player for getting hurt. How some of you can joke about one of our players getting injured blows my mind. Let someone come and and put a bat to your ankle and we will see how funny you think it is then.

Berry is still by all accounts the emotional leader of this team. If the players had any doubts about his toughness or willingness to play through pain when possible, I doubt they'd still flock to him.
I'm gonna go with their assessment over some dudes on an internet forum. |
And why do players get pissed about the tag? If the GM comes to me and says, "I need to shore up this and this and take care of this other contract which is due right now, but I'm going to pay you more in guaranteed money for ONE year than you would see in one year of a 5 year contract, and then we'll get you signed before the start of the following season", why the **** the bad blood?
So afraid of an injury that you can't make it one more season on your initial contract? You know, the one you SIGNED? |
Oh, I believe Berry is still the leader of this defense. They very rarely, if ever, show up.

Everyone calm down. They're saving him for the offseason.

That seems a bit odd.

Probably having surgery

Maybe one of the big national media guys will pick up on it and give us something? Local guys haven't done much.

Like, he didn’t show up at all?

Berry is getting paid to play football. Not to sit on the sidelines and wait for his spirit to tell him to play. I love Berry. I wish he was playing, but this shit is a total cluster****.
At his rate of pay, he should have done whatever it takes to get on the field as soon as possible. He isn't doing that. Cut him today if he isn't going to play the rest of the year. There is a higher probability that we don't see him play again in a Chiefs game than to see him this weekend or the rest of the playoffs. |
He's at a retreat getting his spirit ready

Really at this point, Berry should just have the surgery.

Of course it has to be bittersweet with Watkins possibly coming back and Berry being out again.
God forbid we receive overwhelmingly positive news going into a playoff game. |

Maybe if Berry gets a ring this year.....he'll retire in the offseason. The dude's body is just done and he's made enough money that he can go take care of himself outside of football.
|
The injury report later will reveal everything we need to know. Chiefs reporters are claiming that he missed "the start" of practice, so who knows if he might do some light work towards the end of it? Might be clutching at straws, but even if he doesn't play on Saturday, if we were to win and he's back for the championship game then all will still be well in my eyes. Sadly the Berry haters just can't get over their tedious "spirit" jokes and constant moaning about his paycheck. Meanwhile one of our top guards sits on the sidelines and is being paid a fortune but no-one ever mentions it!!!.

LDT - in three seasons he's missed 18 regular season games. His cap hits in those years? $2.7 million, $5.3 million and $8.2 million.
Berry - in three seasons he's missed 29 regular season games. His cap hits in those years? $5 million, $13.5 million and $16.5 million. Yep...totally the same thing. |
