Have you seen the film?
It's not earth-shattering, but it's some of the most genial good-natured fun in movie history. Just a great chance to chuckle and smile for a couple of hours.

Every one should see this it's like a documentary of a tribesmen village cursed by a Coca-Cola bottle that was thrown out of a aeroplane. It can be a bit silly but has charm.

So I was bored flipping through useless channels looking at the same old shit last night, and I stumbled on X-Men: Days of Future Past on FXM last night. Every time I've watched this movie, Rogue never made an appearance until the very end when Logan woke up in the future, and Bobby died in China as the last line of defense for the Professor/wounded Magneto/Kitty/Logan.

Last night, I watched a version where Xavier, Bobby and Magneto go to the occupied mansion to save Rogue, and Bobby is killed there by three Sentinels getting Rogue out. They use Rogue to absorb Kitty's time traveling abilities (when did she get those, anyway?) so she can take a break and get medical help after being sliced open by Logan. When, exactly, did they make these changes, and why didn't they use this version in the theatrical release? I enjoyed it more than the other version.

Also if you like adventure here's one from the director of The French Connection and The Exorcist. It's actually a remake of a French film called Wages of Fear which is very good as well.It has a few subtitles but not too many but overall an edge of your seat great watch.

Watched The Game with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. Hadn’t seen it in a decade at least and didn’t remember too much about it. Damn good movie! Really enjoyed it. It’s obviously none you have to dismiss actual reality for, but I’m good with that!

Also watched Gringo and thought it was a good movie, although for the first time in my life I actually called the ending at the near beginning.

Two really good Netflix movies on gambling. Mississippi Grind. And "Win it all."

They could have done that, but it wouldn't have been true to the source material of the book. And doing that in the book would ruin the entire feel of the book which is made to feel more like a myth/allegory because of the lack of names, background, or really anything beyond "the road" for the father and son.

So yes: it might have made it emotionally more impactful, but it would have "ruined it" for fans of the book and made it an entirely different experience.

That book was pretty great but just crushing. Reminds me I need to read more of McCarthy.

DeepPurple 03-09-2019 08:51 AM

I always enjoyed the movie Mash but not the TV show. The movie was directed by the late Robert Altman. In 1992 he directed a satirical film about making films. I just showed it last week to a couple of people who never heard of it, and they loved it.

It's got a story with beginning, middle and end but is a sort of slice of life of a studio movie producer and the back stabbing and politics that go on in the movie business. The lead is played by Tim Robbins and he's really good. It's got a murder, it's a mystery, a love interest, and the opening scene is a continuing 8 minute shot with over 30 actors all involved in various activities with the camera constantly moving. It took a lot of planning to pull that opening scene off. There is a huge roster of actors, many are just playing cameo parts to be in this film about films.

You could just go buy a copy of every movie featuring Denzel Washington as the lead (or a major character in it) and watch them. I'm partial to Training Day, Man On Fire, Philadelphia, Fallen, and American Gangster.

Everybody remembers Michael Douglas for Fatal Attraction, Wall Street and Basic Instinct. In the 90's he made some odd movies which I like just as much, Falling Down is one of those odd movies, it could of been better, probably John Goodman as lead would of been greater, but at least Douglas tried something different. What I really liked in the 90's was the one you liked, The Game and his following movie, The Perfect Murder.

I HATED that movie. Saw it in the theater and had to be practically be physically restrained from getting up and leaving. All I remember is Cher ditching her nice and decent boyfriend for the raving lunatic Cage, while some old fart was walking his dogs yelling at the moon.

I tried to watch it again a couple of years later. I thought perhaps I had been in a bad mood when I saw it, or otherwise judged it too harshly. Nope. It just sucked. Basically it's the non-war version of Thin Red Line. I'll never understand what the critics saw in it. Or anybody else.

I'm sure I've gushed about this in other threads, but it deserves another mention - Frailty. From 2001, directed by and starring Bill Paxton, also starring Matthew McConaughey and Powers Boothe. Story told from the point of view of a kid whose dad tells him that he has been commanded by an angel to destroy demons in human form, and then begins his mission. Amazing plot, twists and performances all the way around. It's one of the best movies you've probably never heard of.

The Little Things (2021)
Deke (Denzel Washington), a burnt-out Kern County, CA deputy sheriff teams up with Baxter (Rami Malek), a crack LASD detective, to nab a serial killer. Deke's nose for the "little things" proves eerily accurate, but his willingness to circumvent the rules embroils Baxter in a soul-shattering dilemma. Meanwhile, Deke must wrestle with a dark secret from his past.
