You might look up how much the TV is going for used on eBay, both broken and functional. From there, that can sway your decision to sell or buy.

I bought the TV in May last year so it is under the 1 yr warranty and all repairs will be free but I have to take it to them and pick it up... Thank God For cash huh or I would still be paying for a broken TV :doh!: |

I have a Samsung that I love. Just to play devil's advocate to the pro-Sammy crowd, though, my parents had a slimline DLP that was nothing but trouble. Had some spotting and discoloration issues while still under warranty. Got it fixed. Then shortly after the warranty period ended it started shutting itself off intermittently. Then more color issues. My parents paid to fix it at least twice. Finally gave up on it, and it wasn't even 2 years old.

I have read the reviews on Samsung and that will be the next tv I buy.... Maybe in a year or 2 the wifi will be standard on all tv's and not cost 1000 more.... |

I have a 27" Prima that was bought in a grocery store 3 years ago for $299.00 . A year ago I gave my former employee $50 for this very same unit as he bought a new Plasma. His had been back to the dealer twice for repairs, and 2 in home service calls, mine still works like a charm :thumb::thumb: I'm a different sort, long as it works I don't give flying **** if it's HD, Plasma, flat screen or cathater diode. If I hit the button, and it comes to life with a working picture, and sound...I'm happy. Hell I don't even have a surround sound system, don't really need it for Treehouse (which with my 4yr old is on most of the time) Had one, I got at waqlmart for $50.00, 8 years ago during a post boxing day sale, that crapped out last year. Not a huge gotta have the latest greatest electronic gizmo person. Hell don't know if I even have enough time to watch a TV worth more than $500 on a good day, let alone one which costs more than a grand to justify buying it. Would I like a huge TV, sure....love to win the lotto as well |

I have over 90k in credit limit....and I don't carry a balance. But if I ever needed to, it's there. And I get great rewards for using my card. In fact, I just signed up a month ago for a AA card, got 75k points for buying $1500 in coins from the US Mint, which I then deposited in the bank to pay off the card. That's good for 2 trips anywhere in the US or Mexico. Then, last night I signed up for a Venture card from Cap One, who will match those 75k points, add 10k of their own which will give me $850 in credit towards my next travel purchase. All for buying $1k in coins from the US Mint. LOL....amateur. |

My advice for next time, don't make a major consumer purchase on a shitty 3rd tier brand. Panasonic, Samsung, or Sony are the way to go.
Trying to buy the biggest TV you can for the money is like dramatically upping your commute time by buying a humongous house in the burbs. |

Instead of 90k in credit I have 6 digits in CASH,a 401 k with alot more than that and a paid off house.., what the hell do I NEED A CREDIT CARD FOR? To look like I have money ? use cash, you know the shit you are using your credit to get? I bet 50% of the people on this forum like in real life say they are paying that shit off every month are lying thru their teeth.. I don't "need" anybodys "points" I have never been on a commercial airliner (smaller plane yes) but never on a commercial airliner and since I am almost 45 now, odds are I am not going to any time soon... Dumbasses and credit is what is wrong with this country now, maybe you manage it like a champ, you are in the minority if you do because there are so many people that are 1 paycheck away from bankruptcy and still using a freaking credit card.... Go buy that 40k SUV on that 35k a year salary, buy that 350k house too while you are at it... It's your life and it's your money, spend yours like you like, I will spend mine like I like... I prefer to MAKE the money to spend, not Borrow the money to spend.... Just remember though Run up all that debt then when you die, it comes out of the estate you were suppose to leave to the wife and kids.... All you bulletin board credit tycoons here pull those credit card statements out and mark out the identity shit and show me you carry a 0 balance..... I don't believe it... Prove me wrong |

My credit score today is around 800-820. I totally get the credit card debt trap...in fact I fell into it hard myself years ago and have paid off over 30k in credit card debt. But that doesn't make credit cards evil....any more than a gun is evil. Both are a tool.....how you use it is on you. |

Wife & I have a few cards between us. I've been bad about them for awhile and just recently decided it was time to put a stop to it - I've got her card paid down almost to $0 and then going to start on mine. Going to start using them monthly for a few things and then pay them off each month. But it'll be nice to have something to fall back on when the inevitable emergency happens and we need $4000 right now. |

************************** # Approximately 74.9 percent of the U.S. families surveyed in 2004 had credit cards, and 58 percent of those families carried a balance. In 2001, 76.2 percent of families had credit cards, and 55 percent of those families carried a balance. (Source: Federal Reserve Bulletin, February 2006) # About a quarter have no credit cards, and an additional 30 percent or so pay off their balances every month. (Source: Federal Reserve Board survey of consumer finances, 2004) Average credit card debt per household with credit card debt: $14,750 Average APR on credit card with a balance on it: 13.67 percent, as of November 2010 (Source: Federal Reserve's G.19 report on consumer credit, November 2010) Read more: http://www.creditcards.com/credit-ca...#ixzz1GbNcy6K4 Compare credit cards here - CreditCards.com Read more: http://www.creditcards.com/credit-ca...#ixzz1GbN3nFF9 ************************** So only 30% of the population has credit cards without a balance, and the average debt is pushing $15,000. Given the average rate charged, the average household pays over $2,000 in interest per year or about 5% of their gross income. |

I don't begrudge people a credit card. I would advise anyone to become debt free. From there, once all finances are completely under control, go ahead and use credit cards for the points or whatever. Just pay them off every month. People who bag on Dave Ramsey are missing the point. Donald Trump isn't calling his show. He's getting calls from people who have lost control of their financial lives, generally for no reason other than being sloppy. Not everyone needs to go on P90X, and not everyone needs to go full-blown Dave Ramsey. That doesn't mean that they aren't effective plans. |
I'm not going to post any account info, but at the end of February I received a statement credit of $1,081 from American Express. I paid my balance off every month and never paid a single finance charge. So AmEx paid me $1,000+ for the convenience of using their card.
That might sound like pennies to someone who has six figures in the bank, but I think it's pretty stupid to pass on free money. |

Do you cash out stocks every month to pay your credit card bill, or do you pay out of your checking account? Assuming that you pay out of your checking account, I don't see where you are making any money on the float. |
Quote:
Exactly. I want to get ourselves as debt free as I can. I know that all of our issue is because I tend to be the "Ohhhhh, I want to buy that" type of person. I've gotten better at that issue, and now I'm working on getting the debt we have (which isn't much) eliminated. |

The $2,364 is the ending balance from last month. That is the amount that must be paid in the grace period (which I think is now legally mandated at 21 days IF the card offers a grace period) to avoid finance charges. You can see he made that payment plus some additional (likely paid off the "current balance" at some point during the month) so he avoided any finance charges. |

As for the nuts and bolts, it doesn't really make a HUGE difference, but I pay out of a 1.5 APY savings account on the due date from the credit card company (and not before). Doing it that way is probably worth maybe $20-$30 in interest over the course of the year. Not a huge deal, but since it's easy to do, why not? |

To be clear, though, my philosophic difference with R8ers is much more about the "never use credit cards" idea (due to the rewards and benefits) than the "when to pay your credit card bill in the course of the month." The latter is a matter of pocket change. The former can be very significant. |

I only use a debit card, and I've been debt free other than my mortgage for a couple of years now. I don't think I will ever take out another loan unless I buy another house. I'd love to get my house paid off as well and just pay cash if I ever move, but I've still got a long way to go in that regard. I have a degree in Finance, and I understand that a lot of my counterparts don't like the idea of having a paid-for house, but I also know how many broke financial gurus there are out there. A lot of financial plans are great in theory, but human nature gets in the way more often than not. |
Quote:
1 savings and 2 debit accounts one online one brick and mortar, direct deposit goes to brick and mortar I have 1 credit card, if I do not have enough cash in either of the two debits and it's after hours I will use the credit card. I think I used it twice last year and one was for this broke TV BUT IT WAS PAID IN FULL AS SOON AS THE BILL HIT THE MAILBOX. If someone is barely making enough to pay of the credit cards a month, it's very easy to get into the habit of letting this or that slide til next month, when this happens a man may be more likely to take a day off from work here and there and let that slide at the end of the month too... Before long, the man is up to his ass in debt and blaming the banks for the interest rates... Rewards are great as long as you are not going into debt to get them... |

Never did anything today that I could put off until tomorrow. |
