Starr, Warner, Kelly - 9
Marino - 8
Griese, Stabler - 7
Tarkenton - 6
Dawson - 5
Fouts - 3
Moon - 3
Namath - 2

That's a list of good QBs, but I don't think anyone on this list should be mentioned in the same category of greatness as anyone on the list in the OP.

One surprising thing is Buffalo "only" had 9 playoff wins during Jim Kelly's career. You would think a team that went to 4 straight Super Bowls would end up with more than 9 playoff wins.

This is probably a little harsh on Jim Kelly, because he was injured for the first 2 playoff games in 1993 which the Bills won with Frank Reich at QB. You'd guess he would have 11 wins otherwise.

.. Not another TB thread, there will never be another football player as lucky as him again.

Tarkenton is another like that. Went to three in four years, yet only has six wins. Lost all three and never won a playoff game outside those years.

Tarkenton was a hell of a player. Fran had that magical scrambling ability. I like to think Mahomes is an evolved version of him.

He will have 11 wins by age 27,

And a taller one! First time I saw Mahomes play I thought of Tarkenton. Same ability to extend plays outside the pocket, but without the arm talent. Loved those Viking teams with the Eller/Page/Krause defense, the great Chuck Foreman at RB and of course Bud Grant in short sleeves in 20 degree weather.

kccrow 01-31-2023 03:30 AM

And behind most of those QBs was an outstanding defense.

straycash 01-31-2023 03:38 AM

outstanding defense is not needed in todays NFL, also, now it's a landscape of pie without the cream

What I like about playoff wins is that it doesn't measure talent, it measures accomplishment.

Look at some of these stinkers.

77 career QB rating in the playoffs.

17-43? LMAO

To be fair to Marino, Mahomes has a QB rating of 60 across two Super Bowls.

It's a team sport.
