ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Von Miller paused as tried to pair the face with the name.
“Red Beard? You talking about Red Beard?” he asked the reporter.
“Yeah, yeah,” the reporter responded.
“Yeah, Red Beard,” Miller said, nodding. “He’s one of my favorite rookies, man. I just love the way he plays. He may be a rookie, but when you talk to him, it really doesn’t feel like he’s a rookie. When you see him play, it doesn’t look like he’s a rookie. He’s going to play in this league a long time. I just like his intensity. I like having conversations with him. He’s going to be great for us.”
Red Beard was born Josey Jewell. He’s a 23-year-old linebacker out of Iowa who returned to team drills Saturday after a brief hiatus to recover from a hamstring injury. The Broncos’ veterans know Jewell, if by a different name, because Jewell, like the rest of his rookie class, has earned their attention.
