I'm kind of upset about Brans story all together. Jojen dies in the show and it feels so hollow because he's never been an interesting character on the show. The most interesting character in that group is Hodor and all he does is get warged and say Hodor. The fact that they don't even introduce Coldhands is bullshit to me. I liked everything else about the show but if they had the time to schedule a Brienne and Hound fight then they could've done Stoneheart. These Finales should just be two hours from now on.

I don't mind departures from the book. They've done a great job with Brienne. But they've made Cersei a completely different creature. Her love for her children, as written by GRRM, was a selfish thing. They've completely missed that note over and over and over.

Major departure from the book. Bet she doesn't do the walk naked.

IIRC she's already said she will. She's never been shy about nudity on camera.

They've made Cersei into a character who can be loved and Daenerys into a boring character.

I actually thought book 5 did a pretty good job of that. She went from being one of my favorite point of views to being one I wanted to skip past. Sort of the opposite of Sansa.

Fantastic. Absolutely loved it. If Lady Stoneheart had somehow made the show, that would have gone down as maybe the best season finale of all time (or at least been in the discussion).

That said, kind of didn't like how they offed Jojen, especially with Meera slitting her brother's throat. I admit a chuckled when the girl blew him up. No chance of coming after that, at the very least.

I couldn't believe they didn't end with her. I take that to mean she's never in, and Brienne's going to have a story arc completely unrelated to the books from this point forward.

What a note-perfect ending that would have been. Feels like a huge missed opportunity to me.

I was also mildly disappointed with ending Jamie and Tyrion's final scene with a hug. In the book, Jamie left Tyrion in a red haze by revealing that Tysha had never been a whore, and it led directly to Tywin's killing.

But the stuff north of the wall, the stuff with Arya and the Hound and Brienne, was all money. Also liked Varys going back to the boat when he hears the bells tolling.

The Franchise 06-15-2014 10:04 PM

That Brienne vs. Hound fight though.....damn.

Bowser 06-15-2014 10:07 PM

Yeah, the Jaime/Tyrion parting was off, but I'm guessing only to those of us with book knowledge. I don't believe the story of Tysha has ever once been brought up on the show.

Varys knowing he was ****ed and getting on the boat to ride next to Tyrion was good. I'll go ahead and assume that Varys will take the place of Illyrio going forward.

And I think I agree with that guess - Stoneheart may not make an appearance, therefore completely altering Brienne's story. Biter and the other one (WTF is his name??) already died at The Hound and Arya's hand, so that change was already set in motion before...

Sorter 06-15-2014 10:13 PM

That was incredibly disappointing.

The removal of Tysha, Jojen, and no Stoneheart=one sad Sorter.

Tysha was brought up when Tyrion first met Shae and they played that drinking game with Bronn.

Ah yes. Good recall. I stand corrected.

Makes you wonder why that was never used as a focal point of what drives Tyrion in the show.
