Whit isn't very valuable if he isn't in the 2B or SS.

My thoughts, though, are that Witt-Mondesi-Lopez would be an INCREDIBLY rangy IF and with the changes in shifts, would go back to giving the Royals a defensive advantage that shifting helped demolish.

Obviously having Pratto at 1B would help defensively too.

So stupid. Witt should never ever be moved off SS.

Mondesi is also far likely to get hurt playing SS anyway.

Welcome back!

put mondo on third so he can stand there for 3/4 the game barring injury

I do think it is important for the Royals to find a place for Mondesi where he can get the most playing time without being injured.

Also have a good backup for that position because it is just a matter of time.

You could just stop with whit isn’t very valuable. We should have traded him a couple years ago like the reds did with Winker.

I realize he doesn't play SS very often, but the point remains. He does not generate near the amount of WAR as an outfielder, compared to at 2B - or even the small sample he has at SS.

Yep - no argument here.

Merrifield is like my 4th choice at SS…behind Witt, Lopez & Mondesi.

Very often? He literally NEVER plays SS.

I agree except...
2014 Northwest Arkansas - 9 games at SS.
2014-2015 Mexican Winter League, 7 games at SS.
2015 Omaha 4 games at SS.

Royals will always have that in their back pocket. Let's hope they never need it.

I feel like I'm experiencing another dimension. He does not and will not be playing SS. A few random spot examples in the minors means zilch. There is nothing in the back pocket. We are flush with SS's in our system. Nobody in our front office thinks of Whit as a guy that can also play SS. Literally nobody. It's like saying Dozier is an option at SS because he played the position in college. I actually thought BWillie had confused Whit for Witt. His follow up seems to indicate he either did not confuse the two and therefore has no idea what he's talking about or...he was just playing off the fact that he misspelled BWJ's last name in his original comment.

Shortstop is the premium position on the defensive spectrum. There's a reason why Andrelton Simmons and Isaiah Kiner-Falefa just got signed and traded in the last week even though they're bottom of the barrel shitty with the bat.

Screw player development history, only a select few can man that position in the majors.

Miguel Sano and Miguel Cabrera used to play SS in player development. The Twins and Tigers have that in their back pocket ROFL So what if Three-Hit Whit played there? That was seven years ago! It doesn't mean shit unless it's an emergency situation.

Sorry. I respect your baseball knowledge and was not trying to give you a hard time.

When someone says NEVER...I have to check if there are exceptions.

My earlier post was inappropriate and ill timed.
