I agree with ragedogg. Blair Witch, and Cloverfield were both way better for very different reasons, in my mind...

The Blair Witch Project was a hit because it was a fresh concept. Nobody'd really done anything like it before. (At least that many people had seen.) They really played up the documentary angle, and got the buzz going. By the time anyone saw it, they knew it was bullshit... but the way it was done was completely fresh and new.

Cloverfield (which I loved) kinda piggybacked off of that idea. Yeah it wasn't so fresh and new... But it took the same style to a different genre.

What if you were just a guy on the street when a fuckin' Godzilla-esque monster showed up? It gave you a really cool first person sense of that. That tripped my childhood geek trigger... big time.

Quaratine, while enjoyable... seemed more like another zombie movie.. but with a very limited scope. When I think zombies... I think hordes...

I dunno... JMO.

Yeah... I agree. Now, for a lot of films, that's just part of the marketing.

Cloverfield used the hell out of it. Talk about teasers...

Zack and Miri Make a Porno was funny.

I hated both Blair Witch and Cloverfield.

Now, in 2000 there was a flick on Skinemax called The Bare Witch Project...that was a keeper. :whackit:

Alright, alright. I've convincingly been told, anyway, that there is no such thing as good or bad taste, so I guess it's only up to personal enjoyment.

I think you're wrong. I thing there are people out there with genuinely bad taste.

Yeah. I decided not to waste my time with Still Waiting. It just won't be the same without Ryan Reynolds.

Getting ready to put in Changeling.

I just finished 30 Days of Night.

Not terrible. Not my kind of movie though.

Gonna watch Basic Instinct 2 now. It was free, and I've been curious. I know it's gonna suck.

Rise of the Lycans was MUCH better than Underworld Evolution.

Tonight:

Religulous.

But that's only measured up to your personal taste, which you would probably classify as "good." It's not an objective, precise, non-disagreeable standard.

That was my initial thought of 30 days of night. But the more I thought about it, there were lots of things that piss me off about the movie. It is not good.
