Nick Carfardo update yesterday mentioned the Royals showing renewed interest in Jason Hammel and also touching base on Chris Carter (though they're thought to be more interested in a lefty bat).
Encouraging signs to hear. Hammel is not a replacement for Ventura's upside, but he is a nice approximation of Ventura's middle ground outcome. He needs to be limited to two times through the order as much as possible, but he would be a solid bet to give KC 180 innings of slightly better than league average pitching. A rotation of Duffy, Kennedy, Hammel, Vargas, and Karns isn't as good as one with Ventura, but it's good enough to think they have a shot at the playoffs (especially since it would mean you have Strahm in the pen, helping to lock it down). I'm ready for Strahm in the rotation. It's time.

For this year I want Strahm in the bully as Andrew Miller light.
I'd take Hammel in a heartbeat. And I think we need another bat, preferably left-handed. |
It's gonna be really hard to beat the Indians this year. My prediction is we trade at the deadline and blow the team up for our eventual 2020-21 world series run. If we don't trade anyone, we probably get a wildcard, but I don't think it's worth it.
Unless we come out super hot off the death of Yordano and the emotion helps us rather than hurts us, but that emotion could go either way. Even if we are only 3 or 4 games out at the deadline I would say to sell, we got Duffy for 5 years let's give him a real chance in a couple years at another run. |

I'd be fine with it, but don't want to enter the year counting on him. He needs to throw the secondaries more consistently to be a stud starter, but he's close. Quote:
Definitely will be hard to catch the Indians, but making a playoff push now is worth a lot more than maybe making one in a few years. If they're in the wildcard hunt, they should not sell. Cain, Moustakas and Hosmer are good players, but none is going to bring back a monster haul. Quote:
They do give them every opportunity to start. Sometimes, too many. Strahm in the bullpen this year would be a temporary thing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

How strange it would be if we landed two people who were so instrumental in that 2014 WC game from Oak's perspective (Moss and Hammel). |
