Not to be argumentative but they kinda did. Made a terrible choice with Ian Kennedy. Paid GORDO a ton of money, never realizing he’d drop off a cliff (although I give him a pass). Picked Santana and got a couple home runs. I mean you can only get so many things wrong, right?

They had a decent payroll for a few years.

They could accelerate this “rebuild” by mixing in a few legit vets. Even one solid hitter and one reliable starting pitcher would have done wonders. It’s not asking much to not be near the bottom in payroll.

Tired of waiting years and years for young talent to pan out that almost never does. They don’t have enough in the farm system to build a legit contender anyway.

All that being said, I think there’s reason to think they can finish out the year respectably. Whit is heating up, and I’m sure Perez will too. The young hitters are looking solid, and Singer and Lynch might be coming around.

Would sure be nice to have replaced scrubs like Santana and Taylor with legit vets though.

@alec_lewis: Royals manager Mike Matheny said Daniel Lynch had a back spasm of sorts last night. They weren’t 100% sure if he’d be able to go. Was able, of course, but Lynch called it a non-factor in outing.

I don't know maybe scratch him or just pull him on the first sign of trouble?
