Checking to see if this is all over the US or just in California.

You get a printed notice taped to your door says something like

We will be painting the address numbers on your curb this week. It is a free service that is valued at $20. We will be coming by to collect any voluntary donations for this service. if you do not want your curb painted just tape this notice to your curb before we come by.

Then a couple days later a meth-head shows up at your door asking if you want to pay for the curb painting.

I gave the guy $10 just to keep him from ****ing with my car.

Do you have these in your area?

Do you pay them?

is this your hustle? (c'mon I bet someone on here it's their hustle)

Eddie and Alex Van Halen used to do this before they made it big.

Do you want your curb painted for $40.00 or your car spray painted for free?

Never heard of it, but apparently it's a relatively common scam based on this one thing I googled...

I mostly just try not to answer my phone or door.

I have a little game I play with solicitors. It's called 'See How Many Times They'll Ring The Doorbell Before They Give Up and Leave'. I'm undefeated at this game so far.

I was working and heard the door knock, thought it was an Amazon delivery. Saw the guy walking away and opened the door. the second after I said "Yes?" as the word was leaving my mouth I realized what it was and was like "damn, why did I answer the door?!"

That shit is a scam, saw it pass through a few years ago

I've read that in some cities it's illegal and not only did you pay to have it painted on but you end up paying to have it removed too

Yes. It’s a ‘thing’ here in Texas. See it a lot.

We had it here in Overland Park over the summer. I don’t think there were any numbers painted. These guys aren’t quite as sophisticated as the Indian scammers.

I don’t think they asked for donations though. It was more along the lines of making you feel like they were from the city and you had to pay half and the city would pay the other half.

They are probably the same guys they left a note on our trash cans with an address to send money or gift cards to a few years ago.

sounds like some bullshit to me. Similar to those scumbags that try to sell you magazine subscriptions so they can afford to go on spring break, lmao. I'd just tell them to fuck off.

We get those once a year but they offer to paint for a fee and you tape the paper to your curb. If you do nothing, they won’t paint. Not a scam, just a service

This sounds like what came through our small town a year or two ago. I just didnt respond. They offered white paint for like 10$ and had customizable ones for 30-40 depending on the amount of colors. My buddy had a harley orange/black one painted with his numbers.

If they don't flinch when you answer the door with a shotgun in your hands you know it's legit

It seems to me that saying, "We're going to do something and charge you for it unless you tell us not to", is a scam. It's basically the guy cleaning your windshield when you're stopped at a stop light.

Boy scouts used to do this to raise money, so I always let them do it, but they are the only ones.

Random guy in Athens a few years ago grabbed my hand and threw a bracelet around my wrist while saying some words, then asked for a dollar..... sorry, no cash.... walked into an area with some ruins, left about 30 minutes later and the guy is following me down the street wanting the bracelet back. :doh!:

He wouldn't give up, so had to finally dig through my pockets and find it, and he seemed all pissy about it, like I was inconveniencing him.

I worked security at a bank while in school, and it was located in the bar district of town.

Dudes would be out on the grift, trying to sell stuff, donations, etc. I ran them off bank property, and they normally didn’t put up resistance.

One day I see a guy handing people a piece of paper and taking money from them. I go up to him and ask him to leave, he motions to his ear and hands me a note. “I am deaf. I need money for surgery. Please help” or something like that.

I motion for him to leave anyway, and he just shakes his head and starts to walk away. A nearby asshole walks over to him and yells “Hey!!!” right behind the guy and it scared the shit out of him. LMAO

Deaf my ass.

The few I've come across are legit and looks professional. I don't use it however because I have my mailbox clearly posted as well as my house.

If people are willing to pay, it would seem legit to me.

I suspect some places would want a permit or license to be issued though...

I remember the boy scouts would do this. They would ask if you wanted your address painted on the curb for 5 bucks I believe. they had a bucket of reflective paint and templates.

Hell if a crackhead scammer tried that bs I'd tell them to do as you please that's city property send your bill to them.
