Absolutely amazing.. well played.
Dude was awesome tonight -- I thought it was going to be downhill after he tripped himself on that stupid sack, but the Patriots gave him all day to throw and he made them pay. The pass to Hunt was beautiful. The future doesn't matter, qb battles down the road don't matter, he played great today and we won a huge game. Only thing to do is celebrate.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000840750/article/takeaways-alex-smith-kareem-hunt-pace-chiefs-win
1. Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith knows the rap on him. He can't throw deep. He pilots a station-to-station offense that is more efficient than exciting. One game doesn't erase a career's worth of evidence, but it's hard to say this Chiefs offense is still boring under Smith. Coach Andy Reid pilots a creative offense which borrows liberally from the spread concepts Smith used to run in college. He wound up completing 28 of 35 passes for 368 yards and four touchdowns. It was the first time a Bill Belichick-coached team has ever given up two touchdown passes over 75 yards in the same game.
Smith benefited from a coverage bust and the incredible talent of his playmakers Tyreek Hill and Kareem Hunt, but that talent isn't going anywhere. If the Chiefs can put up 42 points during a quiet night from tight end Travis Kelce, they are going to be difficult to stop
That talent isn't going anywhere but into the Hall of Fame!

Because the Chiefs have never beaten the Super Bowl champions during the regular season before.
And certainly not under Andy Reid.
This wierd read-option offense that I was cursing at the of the beginning of the game, really exposed the vaunted NE secondary in the fourth. Alex Smith led that attack and I credit Mahomes.

Imagine being a part of 5 superbowl wins since 2002 (2 years after the planet opened up shop)
Imagine all of the AFC championships and 15 years of winning like 12 games a year on average

One of the reasons I think we get so testy is precisely because we havent tasted an AFC championship in so long

The biggest difference was play calling and pass protection. Notice the lack of screens and 1 read pass plays where there is only one receiver looking to get the ball while the others are in blocking mode. Hard to be aggressive when you're throwing 5 yards behind the line all night.
He was still the same Alex not forcing the ball down the field into tight coverage taking shots when he saw the guy open. And pulling the ball down trying to run when nothing was there after getting pressure. he had more opportunities. And he was a little more accurate because I think we've practiced this all off season and Andy is gonna call a more vertical less horizontal passing game this year.
This offense has always been its best when Andy calls traditional pass plays and lets Alex read the defense. And at its worse when he gets cute and everything is horizontal.

The one deep ball to Hunt was money. If he even throws that ball a little behind that's not a TD. That was pinpoint accuracy. He even threw deep to Kelce one on one even though it wasn't a catch. Also those shovel passes were working all night long. I'm all for replacing screen plays with shovel passes
