I was just in my garage and I went to move something around cause I was cleaning it up and this black blur ran very fast across my garage, I'm hoping it was a mouse but back in August we saw something similar that looked like a spider. Let me know what I'm dealing with here.

About 4 years ago when I was working at Target in the backroom I saw one of these

It was the size of my hand. I'm afraid it came in when a shipment of bananas was brought in.

Spiders of Kansas. (http://www.spiders.us/species/filter/kansas/) Apparently KS is home to the largest variety of wolf spider - Hogna carolinensis.

Oh yes, down south between the Coldwater-Ashland area those "little" bastards cross the highway in September.

They look like rats or small mammals crossing but.....they are spiders.

Wolf spiders are great, they kill recluse spiders.

I don't kill them when I see them in the house unless my wife or daughter sees one of them.

When I was in basic in Oklahoma I got bit by a brown recluse. All spiders die from now on.

Bastard got me on my ankle. I thought for three days I was getting rubbed raw from my boots . Then we were doing a training excercize where we had to set out stakes and I had to run out 100 yards from my paladin and I went to step on my left ankle and it gave out completely.

Took off my boot and sock and white and black puss had covered my entire ankle. Gross.

Get out now while you can and dont come back. That bastard know you saw him and will be gunning for you. Hell he is probably in your sheets as we speak waiting. Spiders are patient it could be in your slippers waiting for you to slip them on and get paper in the morning. The smart thing is to leave and never return. You have been warned!

I seriously hate spiders. I'll act like a little pussy about it too. My job puts me in the face of spiders throughout the summer, and although I still get the job done, I'll majorly puss out when I see scary spiders. Snakes don't really bother me though. I think they're cool.

When I was around 9 years old I came across one of these in Harrisonville, MO in my basement. I was terrified. I'll never forget it.

This might not be the exact same species but it's very similar to what I saw.

Yeah that looks like the common yellow garden spider. They look nasty but are for the most part harmless.

We have a water garden in our backyard and I had my arms a foot in the water doing some cleaning and noticed one of these in its web in one of the plants and it scared me big time. I figured it was super poisonous due to the colors and tried to drown it. Tough little thing but I eventually got it.

This thread takes me back to being a kid.

I can still remember g-ma saying...
If you want to live and thrive, you'll let the spiders stay alive
Then something about a spider will kill its weight of insects every so many hours(cant remember that part)

Of course, the grandparents were farmers. Snakes were not an issue, they had chickens:thumb:

Just did software and computers for the Air Force when I was in the military, but when I was stationed in Korea for my first duty station I got put in Augmentee duty for base excercises. Long story short I was cruising around the base in a armored personel carrier and I felt something scratching my face. What I swatted off still gives me chills. A grown ass man poisonous banana spider with big ****ing green legs and a gargantium spider ass.

Al b.s. Aside, you want to kill spiders in the house? There's a product called TEMPO SC, spray everywhere inside & out (no smell) and it won't harm pets. I use it 3times a year and I had a bad case of brown recluse sin my house.

My wife got bit on the hip a couple of years ago. She broke out in a rash all over her arms and legs so we went to the emergency room. They didn't think it was a big deal but put her on IV antibiotics anyway. It ended up eating a hole into her thigh about a 1/4" round and 2 or 3 " deep. Took a couple of months to completely heal. I suspect if she hadn't got the antibiotics, it could have been much worse.

There is no indication for prophylactic antibiotics for brown recluse bites, and they should only be used if a secondary infection is suspected..

Sorry, can't help it.

Damn. Yeah they said the closer you are bit to your heart, the quicker the venom takes affect. I'm glad she's okay.
