The actor who played the Professor in "Gilligan's Island" has died ... TMZ has learned.
Russell Johnson, who played Professor Roy Hinkley, died of natural causes at his home in Washington.
Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann, just posted on Facebook, "My 2 favorite people are now gone. The professor past (sic) away this morning. My heart is broken."
The other person who died is Bob Denver, who played Gilligan. He died in 2005.
Johnson was on the show from 1964 to 1967. Johnson was not in the original opening of the show. He and Mary Ann were referred to as "The rest." But Denver insisted that they be included and that happened later.
Wells went on: "Russell was a true gentleman, a good father, a great friend, and 'the rest.'"
Johnson was married -- this was his third wife. He passed away in hospice, surrounded by his wife and 2 kids.
Johnson was 89.
The only surviving members of the original cast are Mary Ann and Ginger, played by Tina Louise.

Check the rotation of her legs (it helps to look at how her feet are pointing) in relation to her hip placement and consider her upright posture. Only her bad knees prevented her from becoming a ballerina, she is well aware of how to position her body. I think she is purposefully trying to make her butt look smaller.

The "Gilligan" theme song underwent this one major change thanks to star Bob Denver (Gilligan), who personally went to the studio and asked that Johnson and Wells be added to the theme song's opening credits. When the studio at first refused saying it'd be too expensive to reshoot, Denver insisted, even saying that if Johnson and Wells weren't included, he wanted his name out of the song as well. The studio caved in, and "the Professor and Mary Ann" were shoehorned in at the very end of the theme for Seasons 2 and 3.[7][8][9] Wells elaborated that star Bob Denver went to the studio executives to get her and Johnson added to the opening credits.[10] Denver pointed out that his contract stated he could have his name anywhere he wanted in the credits, so they could move it to the end credits along with Johnson and Wells. Wells said Denver never mentioned this to anyone in the cast, and she did not find out about it until years after the show ended.

Wow, that's interesting. I learned something today.
Bob Denver was arrested for having a box of marijuana delivered to his home in 1998. He originally said that the box had come from Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island, but he later refused to name her in court and testified that "some crazy fan must have sent it." The police reportedly found more of the plant and related paraphernalia in Denver's home. He pleaded no contest and received six months probation.[7]

Stuff about Russell Johnson and his character, "The Professor:"
The Professor's real name was Roy Hinkley, Jr., but they just called him "The Professor."
He was a high school science teacher and botanist.
In high school he was in the Chess Club.
He was born in Cleveland.
The Professor had Seven Degrees, from schools including USC, UCLA, SMU and TCU.
The Professor said he had been (in the past) a scout master, big game hunter and scuba diver.
Even though he could not repair the hole in the boat, the professor's inventions on the island were impressive. He used bamboo, the ship's horn and radio batteries to create a lie detector; he made a battery recharger from a coconut shell and a helium balloon made from raincoats sealed with tree sap. Many things he invented required pedal power to go, including a bamboo sewing machine, a washing machine, a water pump and a telegraph.
The actor Russell Johnson said because of the censors in the 1960's "They kept The Professor asexual. On Dawn Wells' shorts, they had to bring it up a little bit so you didn't see her navel. They were fighting the censors all the time with Tina Louise's cleavage."

The whole "Yes Master" thing was repressed sexuality on a whole nuther level...

I studied TV actress a lot in the 1970s. A whole lot. I'm sure I'm missing a few, but if I had to rank the 60s/70s attractive TV chicks off the top of my head, I would go:
Pamela (Victoria Principal) - Dallas
Jeannie (Barbara Eden) - I Dream of Jeannie
Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) - Charlie's Angels
Jill (Farrah Fawcett) - Charlie's Angels
Kris (Cheryl Ladd) - Charlie's Angels - That was a top-notch show.
Bailey (Jan Smithers) - WKRP
Barbara (Valerie Bertinelli) - Can't remember the name of the show.
Jennifer (Loni Anderson) - WKRP
Lori (Susan Dey) - The Partridge Family
Wonder Woman (Lynda Carter) - Wonder Woman
Marcia (Maureen McCormick) - The Brady Bunch (post-18. Let's go with post-18 in age.)
Nancy (Pamela Sue Martin) - Nancy Drew
Chrissy (Suzanne Somers) - Three's Company
Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) - Bewitched
Carol (Adrienne Barbeau) - Maude
Mindy (Pam Dawber) - Mork and Mindy
Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) - Gilligan's Island
Lucy (Charlene Tilton) - Dallas
Julie (Marcia Strassman) - Welcome Back, Kotter
Elaine (Marilu Henner) - Taxi
Ginger (Tina Louise) - Gilligan's Island
Gloria (Sally Struthers) - All in the Family
Janet (Joyce DeWitt) - Three's Company
Sabrina (Kate Jackson) - Charlie's Angels
And please don't post any pictures of them today. Please, no. Don't do it. Leave me my dreams.

Rain Man: "Bewitched" was Elizabeth Montgomery. She was highly under-rated. She was a stone cold fox in her youth. mmmmm....dat ass!

The actor Russell Johnson said because of the censors in the 1960's "They kept The Professor asexual. On Dawn Wells' shorts, they had to bring it up a little bit so you didn't see her navel. They were fighting the censors all the time with Tina Louise's cleavage."
It does seem like there were scenes where Gilligan and Skipper were flirty with the girls or mesmerized by their beauty, especially Ginger of course, but I guess I don't recall the Professor ever doing that. Seems odd, since Gillian and Skipper were also swinging bachelors, I assume.

I love this picture of Elizabeth in a one-piece bathing suit sitting on this cool old retro Buick. She was smokin' hot.

I always assumed that it was because he was kind of nerdy and was always wrapped up in his science and inventing. You'd think that he could have easily scored both of the chicks given his very weak level of competition.
Of course, in the real world they would have gone after Mr. Howell. A rich old man always gets the girls.

Quite possibly. I suspect that it would only work for people of a certain age, though. But what a glorious era that was.

If I could spend one night with just one 70's bombshell, it'd be a close race between Tina Louise and Jaclyn Smith... it was always her before Farrah in my eyes.
