Here's a few suggestions:

King Fong Cafe
315 1/2 S 16th St
It's a Chinese joint that's like 80 years old, it's a trippy place and great food.

Jazz Louisana Kitchen
15th & Farnam
Great Cajun food.

Sullivan's Steakhouse is also at 15th & Farnam, I haven't eaten there but it's supposed to be pretty good.

There's also a ton of hole-in-the-wall type places in the Old Market, Howard St between 10th and 12th.

Actually there is a Little King down on the corner of 12th and Howard. Also you could check out Upstream Brewing Company or Zio's Pizza. Trini's Mexican Restaurant is this little hole in the wall type place you have to go looking for because it is inside one of the building(1020 Howard St.). I thought it was so-so but all my co workers say it is awsome.

It's been a few years. Mister C's also closed a while back, we're down to just a handful of true steakhouses.

When it comes to downtown Omaha Dining there a a lot of good options.

Sullivans is an excellent choice if you want a very good steak. It is pricey but the service is outstanding.

Flat Iron Cafe - Also a bit pricey but the menu is very diverse and had some things you will not get other places in Omaha.

Picolo Petes and Cascio's are both terribly overrated and past their prime. Their good is decent, nothing spectacular, the prices are decent and the service is spotty.

M's Pub is also a place where the menu is a bit different from the norm. Moderately priced but can be on the high side depending what you get. Their pound cake desert is awesome.

Twisted Fork - Has a pretty good menu and great food. Prices go up to about $25 for a pretty good ribeye.

Rock Bottom Brewery - It's a chain but pretty good food and easy on the wallet. Have been there serveral time and always had a good meal.

Billyfrogs - Good burgers and sandwiches. Is more of a bar with but the food is cheap and good.

Micheals - This is a decent good Mexican place. Not the first place I would pick but one of the few mexican joints downtown.

O' Casual Dining - Asian Fusion place. Love this place. Great good. Have been told it can be hit or miss on the food but it has always been good when we have been there.

Omaha Prime Steakhouse - The most overrated place in town. Stay away as it is not worth the cost.

If you want to drive to Midtown Crossing which is not far from downtown it is worth the trip to go to Crave.

Crave has a crazy good happy hour menu, their normal menu also has great features, steaks, fish, pasta and can get sushi. Personally, I think this is the best place in town. It is the trendy place to go right now it seems but the food is what keeps us going back there weekly.

Stokes & The Boiler Room are very good.

Jazz is a great Cajun restaurant started by some people who moved here after Katrina.

If you want a really nice place, the Paxton Chophouse is my favorite place to get a steak downtown, but it's quite pricey.

There are a lot of good places to eat in the Old Market area.

Let me know where you go & how you liked it.

I was kinda wondering about them, I was at Piccolo's about a month ago and the t-bone I got there was pretty mediocre, but the new york cut the wife ordered was pretty damn good. I suppose like anywhere else it's hit and miss. Angie's was always my favorite down that way so I never frequented the other two very much.

If you're going to be at the Embassy Suites then you need to head to the Old Market, it's right across the street. Upstream Brewery, M's Pub and Spaghetti Works are all good choices.

M's Pub is OK...pretty much the same management and menu as Vivace's...

...my personal favorite is Ahmad's Persian...but that's I guess not a "normal" place to eat. But it's damn good and Ahmad is a really neat guy. No reservations taken and it's pretty small, but it's an easy walk from the Embassy Suites.

If you want to eat quick I'd say you'd be OK with most of these places, as long as "quick" is about an hour. If you're looking for a 15 minute in and out...I'd say the Little King down there...

That can really throw an out-of-town visitor off! In Phoenix they have something like that, the turn lane (middle lande in a 5 lane road) switches directions morning and afternoon. Some fool is always forgetting or not knowing and bam!
