Are they (Lamar and Clark) affiliated with J.B. Hunt trucking company down here in Arkansas in any way?

I doubt it.

I don't think that bio mentions cornering the silver market.

That's what my wife and I thought as well, but her cousin was recently down here for a visit and insisted they were the same family.

It was Lamar and his brother that did that, right? I'm assuming that they were probably pretty wealthy to begin with, and didn't likely claim any poor cousins from Cleburne, Arkansas.

Looks like they have pretty different backgrounds. Not beyond the realm of possibility that they're related, but I'm guessing it's pretty remote.

Actually Lamar was not involved, it was his brothers Bunker Hunt and William Hunt that tried to corner the silver market and they went bankrupt in the process.

Thanks for the link. I never knew that much about the "cornering the silver market" attempt, other than it put just about every silver mine out of business. It always sticks in my mind just for the sheer recockulosity of it.

The daddy to the Hunt brothers was H.L. Hunt, once the richest man in the world. I read his story in a Playboy magazine 30 years ago. H.L. was an oilman back in the day when that made fortunes overnight. The family has protected their wealth well.

H.L. Hunt had 2 families. There's at least 8 or 9 Hunt siblings running around from that and who knows how many Hunts running around from those kids. Lamar himself has 3 boys.

Be that as it may, but NewChief's wife's cousin's tale seems to be in the realm of "I know this for a fact and it's Gospel truth for sure. Same last name and everything. Everyone knows J.B. and Lamar are kin."
