Damn, every month it seems as if some holiday exists that needlessly takes our cash. Don't get me wrong, I love my mom. But it isnt just about my "mom" anymore... its about mother in law, and both her grandmothers, and then a card from my son to his mom and all his grandmas and great grandmas... factor in flowers to certain selected moms, and May Wheneverth each year costs me lots o' cash.

Plus my wifes birthday is at end of April, got a grandpa birthday, my wifes and I anniversary... plus everyday I have my Chiefsplanet birthday... it is getting expensive.

Holidays geared to make us spend cash... in every month as far as I can tell... except August.

I love August.

August is a great month, it's the month people get to buy ME presents instead of the other way around.

August is the month I seem to spend the most...a little holiday called school. Try paying for 2 in high school...you will wish you were buying the 25 dollar package of flowers.:banghead:

My parents never spent money on me in August...

And what is the national holiday in April? I'm coming up with a blank other than sometimes Easter. But that doesn't have to necessarily happen in April.

Arbor day varies on which state you're in, but Earth day is always the 22nd. And who has to spend money on that?

Mastashake
And I wouldn't call Easter a "commercial" holiday in any way.

It's not a federal holiday, there is no specific living being to commemorate.

Recap (please correct any I missed or am wrong about)
January - New Year's. If you are spending money on this day, it is strictly for yourself.
February - Valentine's Day. Yeah, commercial for commercial's sake
March - St Patrick's Day - See New Year's
April - ?
May - Mothers' Day - Yeah, See Valentines. Memorial Day - Money spent only on yourself, paid holiday
June - Father's Day - Yeah, See Valentines
July - Independence Day - Again money for yourself. You are not obligated to buy anything for anyone.
August - Nada
September - Labor Day - Same as Memorial and Independence Day.
October - Halloween - 6.00 worth of candy and a 20.00 costume for the kid to bring home 10.00 worth of candy. No big deal
November - Thanksgiving - This one is costly for those that prepare the dinner
December - Christmas - Again costly.

So I count 5 holidays in which you are forced to believe you are obligated to spend more than 20.00 on someone else.

I get a double whammy each May with Mom and stepmom, and then today we're getting ready to go to dinner and there's a gift bag on the table for grandma and I ask the wife," isn't that why they came up with grandparents day?"

Of course I got the,"well you know,I don't want her to feel left out" and I'm thinkin' well she shouldn't she's got 7 kids.

As for August,I got my dad's birthday and he and my stepmom's anniversary.

August is by far the month I dislike the most.

1. Its freaking hot outside.
2. "Real" football hasn't started yet
3. The Royals are far out of contention at this point

May must suck as well if #3 is a barometer.

More people's birthdays are in August than any other month, so maybe that's why there's no holidays.

I think the problem is you cannot definitely pinpoint Easter is moves even in terms of weeks.

My birthday, my wife's birthday, my brother in-law's birthday, my step son's birthday, and his wife's birthday all fall within 8 days of Christmas.
