I'm curious as to what the consensus among posters here is.

Should marijuana be made legal?

Some interesting stats regarding political parties and age brackets;

General comment to poll: This should be done by state--not nationally which the poll seems to imply. And which some answers show under the US making so much money on it. No federal tax, whatsoever, should be placed on this.
I'd rather have user taxes such as a tax on weed than the idiotic tax on income.

Part of the reason that drug abuse is so damaging economically is because the drugs themselves are illegal which means that they are vastly overpriced because you are purchasing on the black market. Secondly because they are illegal there is no liability or quality control. This comes up in overdoses, because the drugs are illegal the user has no clue as to the exact purity or what exactly the drug was cut with. You see this with overdoses, the user didn't use more then they normally do but the drug was more pure or cut with something toxic.

Secondly, there are many high functioning drug users simply because their biology is more resistant to addiction. Just like there are people who can drink a ton of alcohol and never get addicted to it and there are people who can have a few drinks and slide into addiction.

That still doesn't make it a Federal matter. If there's going to be a tax on such things, it should be on all things as part of national consumption tax to fund the federal govt. Other than that, I think there should be no federal income tax...but that's another argument. Neither are going to happen so let's keep the Feds out of it and not gain more power over us which is what more income for them would do. That is besides have more money to waste.

There are several reasons it should be legalized. There are no reasons it should be illegal.

Poll now running 18-2 (18-1 without me) so we can safely assume the voters here are likely under 40.

Except, that's not always a hard line but sometimes a grey area. Families get destroyed and children harmed from addictions to some drugs. Such things are not always direct.

Age should have nothing to do with it. Reason should have everything to do with it everything from the disaster that the war on drugs has been, to the right to self-ownership, to the clear medicinal uses.

There really isn't a good reason for weed to be illegal other then towing the government line. The government wants it illegal because they are obnoxious puritans or they just like to wield power over others. Probably a combination of both.
