Should Marijuana be Legalized?

I'm curious as to what the consensus among posters here is.

Should marijuana be made legal?

Some interesting stats regarding political parties and age brackets;

That's what one economist said. That the US would make BILLIONS of dollars annually from tax revenue.

Marijuana is a "schedule one" drug. It falls in the category defined as:

(1) Schedule I.—
(A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
(B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
(C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/21/812

So...ask yourself why nicotine, caffeine and alcohol don't qualify in a similar manner.

EDIT : Oh and also, if you believe that weed SHOULD NOT be legalized, I'd appreciate it if you could take the time to post your reasoning.

So what? Taking that logic to the extreme, We could earn billions by taxing child porn. Doesn't make it a worthwhile industry. Money isn't everything

I don't think it should be legalized, but I wont really care if it is.

Should be legal. Has obvious medical benefits at least as an anti-nausea drug and/or appetite stimulant.

I get your point, but child porn isn't the greatest comparison you could have made. Child porn is a universally demonized thing, whereas weed is not.

Also, I wasn't saying that high tax revenue is the sole reason to legalize weed. I was just responding to the other guy's post about that it should be highly taxed if weed were legalized.

The difference is that in child porn you are harming another person. If smoke weed/snort coke/inject heroin you are only harming yourself.

This.

Again, Prison, I do get the point you're making, but that was a really bad comparison.

The point is that the economic argument is weak. Who cares if it does raise revenue? For one its so minimal it won't even matter. For two, the government will just flush it down the toilet anyway.
