The most important moment of the Ted Cruz filibuster...

If anyone is confused about what is going on with this whole Ted Cruz theatre - and such great theatre it is - I give it 10 of 10 stars. Years from now people are going to look back at Ted Cruz and remember him as a great communicator, and I don't say those words lightly. Not every politician truly understands communication on a symbolic level, but I can tell you this: Ted Cruz does. There wasn't a thing he did last night that wasn't carefully considered with the symbolic nature of communication in mind. From the Green Eggs and Ham, to the DUck Dynasty - this guy was hitting line drives of communication straight into the conservative heart of America, and its connecting.

But there was one moment among all the theatre that cut right to the heart of this bit of showmanship, and got down to brass tax. What is this all about? It's about one thing: winning the Senate in 2014 and repealing Obamacare. Here is him telling the country how he intends to do it:

One problem with your 'great communicator' proclamation--he has an annoying nasally voice and comes across as a whiny bitch. Shouldn't matter, but it does.
That segment was Jon Stewart at his worst. For all his protestations that he's an entertainer who seeks the funny first and if it happens to be liberal, well them's the breaks, that segment was him blatantly parsing the smallest of sound bytes completely devoid of context for the express purpose of belittling a partisan opponent. At those times he is everything he claims to decry in 'serious' journalism.

"OMG, he said 'Ashton Kutcher.' That's so stupid."

Ted Cruz quoted from Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech at the Teen Choice Awards. Jon Stewart didn't belittle Ted Cruz, he just showed some of the highlights.

He smokes Obama there. Cruz can easily talk off the cuff without needing a teleprompter, and do so without fumbling his words the way Obama does.

As far as tactics go, I don't know a single person who think Obama care is going to be a good thing for them economically. It's all about the money, and polls show that the American people are with Ted Cruz on this. Does that mean they're willing to blow the thing up and start all over again. Who knows? I know I am. I guess that's what this is all about, and I get the sense that not too many people are calling into their senators begging them to hold the line on Obamacare.
maybe he gets that from his Canadian roots
