Fox News’ Lauren Green Doesn’t Understand Religious Scholarship

You're a Chiefs fan, yet you have an opinion on the Broncos. Isn't that odd?

Fox News, you, that article have no idea how higher education works.

But please, continue to think that just because his degree doesn't say the right word, he hasn't studied what he said he did.

Also, that article was completely dishonest about the quotes. I would suggest you actually watch the interview.

/nice spin though.

I think it should remain firm in the minds of all that this came from the online only religion beat. This wasn't a centerpiece of an O'Reilly prime time episode.

This exchange informs us about larger truths about American society about as much as a front yard confrontation between the Republican Dog Catcher and Democrat City Comptroller in a suburb of Biloxi, MS.

It's a couple of dummies snarking on youtube.

Um, what was his dissertation on? .

Here are the degrees he DOES have according to his Wiki page: a B.A. in religion from Santa Clara University; a Master of Theological Studies degree from Harvard Divinity School; a Doctor of Philosophy in the sociology of religion from UC Santa Barbara, and an MFA in Creative Writing from U of Iowa. Now, to make that easier for the layperson to understand, one might describe that in informal usage as "a PhD in religion" because otherwise it takes too long to explain and people have very short attention spans.

Jon Stewart reads every book of everyone he interviews(who is promoting a book) and he invites conservatives on his show.

I don't even know what your point is here. There's 1 general version of the Bible. There are some minute translation differences and some theological arguments sure - but I'm highly suspicious you can find different versions of those verses that say competing things.

As to what I believe, I don't argue that either way. I'm arguing this from the widely accepted interpretation. Which he's admittedly challenging. It's near impossible to misinterpret those (and hundreds other) verses whether a believer or non-believer.

Your offense, well one of them, is trying to prove the Bible is proven fact by citing to the Bible itself.

JFC. I specifically stated the opposite: I don't take a position on whether the Bible is true or not.

We're not even discussing that. We're talking only about Aslan's reading of the Bible itself.

All of the gospels were written after Jeebus had died. They aren't eyewitness accounts and just about every story in the bible is cribbed from other myths of the time.

You are astonishingly stupid.

Now you are misrepresenting his credentials. PhD is in Sociology. Not Sociology of Religion. His dissertation was titled "Global Jihadism as a Transnational Social Movement: A Theoretical Framework" He was exploring a theory on current social behavior based on a religion.

Wow, this is the dumbest post of the year. I never said they claimed to be contemporaneous accounts, I said they were eyewitness accounts. Just as a WWII vet telling his grandchildren about his experiences in the War or living through the Great Depression would be eyewitness accounts.

It's better for you Native to be though an idiot and not post, then to start typing and remove all doubt.

He said he had a PhD in the History of Religion. Your wikipedia page says his PhD is in Sociology of Religion. Assuming wikipedia is accurate, I'd say I characterized it perfectly.

I don't know what his dissertation was on. Best case, it supports my contention. Worst case, I gave him too much credit. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.
