eight-colorado-counties-want-to-leave-the-state/

As many as eight counties composing the rural, oil and gas-rich northeast corner of the state are pursuing a plan to cut ties with a capital city they no longer feel represents their interests and come together as the 51st state in the country: North Colorado.

“We’re actually going to pursue it,” said Weld County Commissioner Douglas Rademacher, a farmer whose jurisdiction is spearheading the effort. “Frankly, we’ve been ignored in northeastern Colorado now for the last, going on eight years with the current administration in Denver.”

“Frankly, we see no option,” he said. “We are going to move forward.”

I can't believe there is not more of the Eastern counties wanting to join them. The liberal migration seems to have really changed certain areas of the state the past few years.

This is hilarious. More power to them if they want to do this.

Adams County in the Denver metro area is a complete and total cesspool of fraud and corruption. Over time, one city actually seceded from the county and formed its own county, and two other cities have seriously thought about it, primarily so they could get away from the crooked leaders of the county. So there's precedent for secession in Colorado on a county level. It's a huge stretch on a state level, though, and it'll make our state a non-square.

Are you a fellow Coloradan?

You would think that more eastern counties would join the move, but at the same time it's a very low-probability thing to make happen. They don't mention the specific counties, but I bet it's Weld and the six counties in the NECALG http://www.necalg.com/senior/senior_...y_funding.html, plus one other county. Those counties do differ a lot from the bulk of the state, so I could see them having fundamental philosophical differences with the main population base.

I saw an article that said some counties in Nebraska and Kansas have expressed interest, too. This would be so cool. They also talked about petitioning to leave Colorado and join Wyoming, which would be less cool than a new state but still pretty fun.

I lived in Yuma county for a while. Glad to see they're part of it. I met a lot of good people in that area.

No, I'm a flat lander who travels west on a somewhat regular basis to enjoy the mountains, kill shit, ski, & enjoy your strange. Eastern, particularly North Eastern, CO always just seemed so different from the areas that have been consumed by the migration. I guess you could say the same about the South West corner too, but it doesn't seem to be such a drastic difference like the NE corner does. It's similar to how the morons in Chicago inform the bottom 2/3 of Illinois how they are going to live when they have no ****ing clue how different it is.

It's funny you mentioned them joining Wyoming as that was my first thought. The people, ideas, beliefs, way of life... Everything would seem like a more natural fit. I could see a "new" square state with the corners of Colorado, Nebraska, & Kansas making a lot of sense too.

I highly doubt any of it happens but out of all the crazy ideas you hear about, this one actually makes a little sense.
