***OFFICIAL TYLER BRAY QBOTF HOPE THREAD***

For all things Tyler Bray since he's already signed. Place to discuss his chances of success, his inevitable success, and his future elite status.

Pros:
Height
Weight
Cannon Arm
Can't Trick Shot
Not a Hippie

Cons:
Maturity (correctable)
Motivation (correctable)
Overconfidence (debatable con)

Final Verdict:
He's Today's Brett Favre at age 21.

Today's Brett Favre as in all his talent and Favre's personality. Favre knows he's accomplished great things and has every reason to be cocky and immature and take pictures of his dong and send them to babes. Except Bray has accomplished nothing and needs to be taught.

Let's Discuss!

Bray is expected to sign with Chiefs later today. Source said he is 'very excited' about going to Kansas City to play for Andy Reid.

Glad we didn't have to use a draft pick for him. Reid has a lot of work to do on him.

I'm not getting any hopes up for this, he is an UDFA in the end. Talented guy, but I wouldn't give it a high chance of success.

Jeff Bray said Tyler is where he wanted to be - KC with andy reid. Jeff added: 'for 2 hours the phone did not stop ringing' from NFL teams.

He means the two hours after the draft. So really Bray could of choosen any team but he decided he wanted to be in KC.

That's not a good comparison. I don't think he's the headcase Ryan Leaf was. Leaf was completely full of himself.

But to be fair, Ryan Leaf had a much more accomplished college career. Heisman finalist, Pac 10 title, Rose Bowl... etc, etc.

Bray QB'ed a team that went 1-7 in the SEC, and got benched in a game toward the end of the year.

NFLDRAFTSCOUT.COM
Report: Undrafted Vols QB Tyler Bray signs with Chiefs
By Derek Harper | The Sports Xchange/CBSSports.com

Former Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray signed with the Kansas City Chiefs after going undrafted Saturday, according to an ESPN report.
The No. 92 overall prospect by NFLDraftScout.com entering the draft and the No. 7-rated quarterback, Bray headed a star-laden group of underclassmen who went undrafted.

Projeced as a third-round prospect, Bray was one of several quarterbacks who slid dramatically during the three-day event due to a general lack of need for most of the 32 teams in the NFL. Florida State's EJ Manuel was the only quarterback selected in the first round, and former Heisman Trophy hopeful Matt Barkley fell all the way to the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round.

Bray left Tennessee following a record-breaking 2012 season that included 3,612 passing yards and 34 touchdowns against 12 interceptions with a 59.6 completion percentage. However, he appeared timid during his media session at the Scouting Combine. Failing to distinguish himself from the second-tier quarterback class, Bray was subject to a significant fall come the draft, and that's exactly what transpired.

It's a coup for the Chiefs, who were believed to be one of the few teams potentially interested in a quarterback entering the draft. They declined to select one with any of their eight draft picks and ended up as a great destination for Bray, who might well benefit from not being locked into a team that drafted him.
In Kansas City, he will have a chance to compete with five-year veteran Chase Daniel as the backup to starter Alex Smith. Daniel is 6-foot and has virtually no regular-season experience after backing up Drew Brees in New Orleans. Ricky Stanzi and Alex Tanney are also on the Chiefs' roster, neither of whom has played a regular-season down in the NFL.

If Bray was going to suffer through the indignity of not being drafted, he couldn't have landed in a better spot.

Ryan leaf was also a sociopath, had a short temper, and was a drug addict. Traits that are significantly harder to hide in this 24 hour, constantly socially connected world we now live in. We should be fine.

And he'd probably go undrafted in this era as well...

Former Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray has the measurables and the arm strength to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.

In that sense, the Kansas City Chiefs signing him after the draft was a smart move.

There is still plenty for Bray to work on. His decision-making and accuracy need work. He also needs to improve in regards to identifying NFL-level plays. According to Michael Schottey of Bleacher Report, one NFL scout called Bray's whiteboard interview "the worst he'd seen."

But Bray also measures at 6'6", 230 pounds. He registered the NFL combine's best peak ball speed at 59 mph, per Dan Pompei of the National Football Post.

It's not a surprise that Bray went undrafted at Radio Music City Hall given his apparent lack of intangibles and football IQ, but he's most certainly worth a gamble after the draft.

In terms of production while he was at Tennessee, the reviews were mixed. He ended up passing for over 3,600 yards in his junior year while tossing 36 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. He also ranked a respectable 25th in the nation in yards per pass attempt.

On the other hand, Bray was blessed with two incredibly athletic receivers in Cordarrelle Patterson and Justin Hunter (both were selected in the first 34 picks of the draft this year).

He also struggled against some top competition in the SEC, throwing a combined seven interceptions against Florida, Georgia and Alabama in 2012. South Carolina was the only top SEC team that he played well against last year.

While production isn't everything when evaluating NFL prospects, when you don't produce against top college competition, and back up doubts about your pocket presence, accuracy and decision-making in the process, that can raise red flags throughout the NFL.

Was this a good move for the Chiefs?

Overall, this a low-risk pick, and with the Chiefs recently signing veteran quarterback Alex Smith, it's not like they need Bray to come in and start right away. It's a good situation for the young signal-caller who will be able to learn under new Chiefs coach Andy Reid's wing.

If it doesn't work out for the Chiefs, they didn't have to risk much anyway. If it does work out, Kansas City finds a steal.

It's all about drafting (or not drafting) for value in the NFL. Bray was a worthy signing for the Kansas City Chiefs.
