Invasion of Iraq 10 years later: Good move or mistake

10 years ago today the US invaded Iraq to overthrow the regime of Saddam Hussein. The after-effects of that decision are still being felt to this day, and obviously will continue to play out in the years and decades to come. At this milestone, however, knowing everything that you know now, should we have gone in, or not?

Regrets and hypotheticals aren't really the goal here. We could go on and on (and have, many times) about how the post-invasion situation was handled, etc. ad infinitum. You should vote simply on the facts as they have actually occurred over the last 10 years.

Poll forthcoming. Note that it will be a public poll.

You know, you keep harping about the money wasted (I agree it has been a waste of money) and the death toll (again, I agree it wasn't worth it) but yet you say nothing about the money wasted in Afghanistan and the death toll in Afghanistan since 2008, and you have the nerve to call someone a partisan hack?

Oh wait, nerve has nothing to do with. You're just a silly moonbat piece of garbage.

I'm going to give you two points for that takedown.
Did Obama get umpteen deferments? Or get silverspooned into the National Guard only to show his gratitude by not showing up for duty? And then turn around and attack the service of someone who actually volunteered during wartime? That type of behavior is half the equation.

It has nothing to do with being republican and everything to do with using the military as a political pawn or for the advancement of commercial interests. That is the other half of the equation, IMO.

I'm not happy with a lot of the current administration's conduct. That said, their is no equivalence regarding the term chicken hawk (those who bang the drums of war but evaded service when it was their time to serve).

Bullshit. Some of us remembered the rationale behind not toppling Saddam after the Gulf War.

The question is "Iraq, 10 years later, was it a good idea?"

Of course we are voting with hindsight, if your not, you aren't paying attention.

Do I have a response to what? What's the point that you think you've provided evidence for? And I'm talking about post 61 which is what I was responding to prior to your "cost of the war" change of subject. Let's deal with one thing at a time.

In case you've forgotten it, post 61 consisted of a misleading quote, a link to a document, and a cartoon. Your own intellectual contribution to the post was limited to deceptively describing the document as "House investigation 2004" when what it really was was a purely partisan hack job from Henry Waxman and democrat staffers. The same Henry Waxman that two years earlier had said:

Quote:
“Whether one agrees or disagrees with the Administration's policy towards Iraq, I don't think there can be any question about Saddam's conduct. He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do. He lies and cheats; he snubs the mandate and authority of international weapons inspectors; and he games the system to keep buying time against enforcement of the just and legitimate demands of the United Nations, the Security Council, the United States and our allies. Those are simply the facts.” — Henry Waxman, Oct 10, 2002
So, what is it you think you proved with that deceptively labeled document?

What do deferments have to do with this? You called SHTSPRAYER a chickenhawk earlier in the thread and we haven't had a draft in this country since he was still riding his big wheel around his parent's backyard. And anyway, deferments were created by Congress because they believed that some non-military roles were too valuable to interrupt with conscription (e.g. raising a family, pursuing higher education, etc.). There's no shame in getting a deferment and there's no reason for someone who earned a deferment to hesitate expressing their views on war or any other policy of our government.

The only reason you find no equivalence between this administration and the last one with respect to war is that this one is democrat.
