Does your perception of wealth distribution accurately reflect reality?

Just curious how close your (both conservatives and liberals) perception of wealth distribution reflects the reality of wealth distribution in the United States. Be honest. If our perceptions about reality are rightly or wrongly skewed one way or another, it helps to clarify why we (both liberals and conservatives) believe some of the things we do.

I think we have to. There is way too much money being taken in by the federal government not to make it work.

I would agree.

However, my definition is not just "Welfare" it is "Government Assistance".

And more people today receive Government Assistance than ever before - thus there are more people conniving and stealing from the American taxpayer than ever before.

Is it worth allowing some "moochers" to play the system to make sure that all of our children are fed? That our physically and mentally handicapped are cared for? That are elderly have peace of mind?

From the government, I agree.

Do all those people need help is the question? As I said, I have seen people helped, and I appreciate it as we were helped as well. I will always do what I can to make the lives of others better - I find a peace at being charitable. I don't find a peace at a government who forces my hand and tells me who I have to pay for and what I have to pay for. In fact, I am offended by it. and that offense increases when I see people reveling in the fact that I pay for their desires, not needs.

I guess our difference is in the definition of the word "some". I don't see it as some, I see it is as "many".

No problem. I am pretty thick skinned.

Very cool to apologize though. I am humbled.

Well, the moochers get the press for one thing. A mom quietly struggling to raise her kids by herself isn't newsworthy. A million of them isn't even newsworthy. Overly flamboyant, entitled douchebags make great sound bites though. As the corpse that was American journalism was unceremoniously dumped into a shallow grave several years ago, I don't trust the "news" to "report" on anything without bias and sensationalism. I trust my eyes and ears. I trust my ability to read people that I come in contact with on a daily basis. I know that critical help is being given and I know that it is appreciated.

As I do, and as I said, I see the help being appreciated.

I also have worked with vultures who drive their new cash for clunkers cars, receiving food stamps, texting on their most current version of the iPhone, clocking out while claiming less than they earned in tips so they can get home to their big screen plasma television to watch the latest episode of Game of Thrones and gripe that their "free insurance" doesn't kick in for a couple of more years.

Yeah. It's going to happen. I don't let it bother me.

what is wrong with me?
i watched the video and not once did i feel envious or jealous of the people who have more wealth than me. I do not feel like they have too much, or that there is something "unfair" about the "share" they have.

Entrepreneur’s Credo

I do not choose to be a common man,
It is my right to be uncommon … if I can,
I seek opportunity … not security.
I do not wish to be a kept citizen.
Humbled and dulled by having the
State look after me.
I want to take the calculated risk;
To dream and to build.
To fail and to succeed.
I refuse to barter incentive for a dole;
I prefer the challenges of life
To the guaranteed existence;
The thrill of fulfillment
To the stale calm of Utopia.
I will not trade freedom for beneficence
Nor my dignity for a handout
I will never cower before any master
Nor bend to any threat.
It is my heritage to stand erect.
Proud and unafraid;
To think and act for myself,
To enjoy the benefit of my creations
And to face the world boldly and say:
This, with God’s help, I have done
All this is what it means
To be an Entrepreneur.”

I don't let it bother me. I do recognize it is a serious issue that needs to be addressed by not throwing more money willy nilly to "solve" the issue.

"Bothered" to me is akin to a fly buzzing around my barbecue grill. I am not bothered at all, I am offended by the people who do so and the people who have no desire to change the process.

I am betting that the majority of those who use the term "Fair Share" don't even know what a fair share is.

That said, I am as against corporate welfare abuse as I am personal. No quarter for either side as far as I am concerned.
