My suggestion was based on this article combining the Malachy prophesy and a prophesy/dream of Pope Pius X.

If the Pope wants to appeal to converts, he should choose Snoop Lion I.

I think Scola has a good choice. I'd like him to take the name Zosimus II...just because.

In all seriousness, I don't think an American has a chance, but O'Malley is the only American who COULD get elected (because of his record of dealing with abuse cases, and his own spirituality). As much as the mainstream media would love to see an African elected, I don't think they know what they are talking about. The African Cardinals are the MOST traditional when it comes to faith and morals...the make Benedict XVI look like a kitten in comparison.

To wit:

ALL of the African Cardinals are cut from the same cloth as Arinze.

They would be best served to select someone as far away from the internal workings of Rome as possible. Will they? Probably not.

Doubtful, They just had a Germanic pope. If they were REALLY smart they would tap one of the Americans or the Cardinal from Mexico or Brazil.

Except it doesn't work that way... at all. The cardinals could care less about any of that nonsense. Schonborn is an almost perfect choice right now... and is the most likely "favorite" of Benedict. On the surface, Schonborn is every bit the "traditional" pope. European nobility, etc. But under the surface he is an avid reformer who hasn't been afraid of taking on establishment views. And most importantly, you'd have a return to John Paul levels of media worship. Schonborn is very media friendly.

Why would a "reformer" who isn't afraid of taking on "establishment views" be a favorite of Benedict's? Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean by those terms.

Not sure what you mean here? Schonborn and Benedict are very close, both personally and in many ways philosophically. And when I say "reformer" I'm not talking about anything crazy.. he is still fairly conservative.

In many ways, Schonborn is to Benedict as Benedict was to John Paul II.
