From what I understand thousands of people from Mexico cross over into El Paso every day to go to work or college.

If we were sitting in a bar together just shooting the breeze, and you told me that you were thinking of visiting a Mexican border town, I would try to talk you out of it for your own safety. |

I have crossed many times with cattle buyers 7-10 years ago at Columbus, Santa Teresa, and Eagle Pass.
Every time was the same. Very nice, very clean US, as soon as we crossed the border there was solid trash and garbage everywhere. I will never go back to Mexico. It's a shithole. I flew a cattle guy to Nogales a few times. The helicopter pilots for the border patrol wear full body armor. It's insane. |

Probably not many, but Juarez is a MUCH bigger city than EP (nearly triple), so I'm sure there's some.

I doubt too many go the other way daily. The show I watched (some PBS show I think called the Daytripper) showed the people from Mexico coming through and they asked them about the process. They said that it could be 5 minutes or an hour to get through. I can't imagine that kind of hassle would be worth it for many jobs on the Mexican side. Even if it's easier for Americans it's probably still not too convenient.

I spent some time in Del Rio Texas two or three years ago. It was interesting because everyone was extremely focused on what was going on to the immediate south. People there carried guns like we carry wallets/purses. Every adult carried at all times. It was just a given.

I was in EP,TX in late October. It's a dump. I didn't go across the border just drove within binocular range of Juarez and looked over the place.
It's an incredible dump. EP,TX is a dump also. But holy shit Juarez looks like one huge slum. |

An American dump is a first world dump. A Mexican border town is something different altogether.

I cross on 85 in AZ at the Lukeville/Sonoyta crossing a couple times a year, looks the same to me. Of course you drive through a wildlife refuge full of cactus and dirt on the US side to get there so it just kind of transitions into Mexico. Once in Mexico, there is a lot more Isuzu Amigo's and Toyota MasterAce's driving around than you'll find in the States.
